Hi, I am sure that I am about to display my ignorance but.. I am looking for a portable image viewing / storage device on which: - I can store my images in .psd format, or possibly .TIF large enough to give a good quality image
has a large enough screen ( min 8" max 10" ) to display them on
has a high enough resolution to make use of the image file size
Can store them in folders, and better still, allow me to allocate tags - Has large enough memory capacity say 1TB
- Does not require WiFi
- A sort of iPad devoted to photographic images with no other features.
and that does not break the bank!! My son says "no problem" if I have a spare $2000 to spend. |

That is asking a lot, so while it might not be $2000, you are looking at a pretty high-end device.
Probably the biggest deal breaker is expecting the 1TB of built-in storage. The portable devices aren't going to give you that (and it would cost quite a bit to deliver).
If you are willing to have a display device that connect to an external USB storage device, you might be able to get the cost down.

"If you are willing to have a display device that connect to an external USB storage device" You probably need a large tablet with a USB port and two TWO solid state external drives. Store your files on the two external drives. Each external drive would be more-or-less identical, i.e. duplicate. Since I presume you will want this "in the field" the SSD drives would be preferred as the spinning drives apparently are more vulnerable to damage. You should be able to get such a tablet and two SSD external drives for under $1,500 CAD. (I have no idea what prices are like where you live.) Good luck Clive |

Popcorn, IMHO a 15 inch laptop or tablet style laptop with usb charging is the best way to go. You can get them with a 1TB ssd or fit one later. (or get 500 Gbt and an external drive) You don't need a new one or the latest and greatest. There are shops that sell used or reconditioned laptops. Choose one that has a bright screen, a long battery life and a guarantee. Its a compromise between cost and quality.

Hi,
once again thanks for the response.
I have an iPad and I have a 1TB SSD
The viewing software will be the problem.
In order to take advantage of all my TABs on Organizer I will probably have to invest in another Elements program.
I have a couple of older versions of Elements.Possibly I can load one of these on to the iPad.
I don't know if Organizer will work as a stand alone.
The more I think about it, the more unworkable it becomes. I will probably have to add a power bank.
It just becomes to bulky. Looks like I will have to lug my laptop around.
I am no computer fundi maybe I should put it on the back-burner for now.
The idea is to be super portable, what I am actually looking for is a substitute for old fashioned photo albums, I can just pick up and bring back the past!!!

One really simple way to do what you want is something like this.
Get the SD card adapter for your iPad, it will be either Lightning or USB-C, your friendly computer dealer will know which one.
Get an SD card of the size your want.
Export each Organizer folder to the SD card from your computer.
I assume your folders are named so that you know what each one is about
Plug SD card adapter into your iPad
Find the "Files" folder on your iPad, it even looks like a folder
Click open the folder you want
Click on the photos and they will quite quickly appear
You really only need jpegs to show up nicely on an iPad, saves space, loads quick

While there are versions of Photoshop and Elements for the iPad, I don't think there is an Organizer equivalent. I also don't think the organization you did on one computer would translate to another computer.
I'd recommend one of the following:
1) Invest in a Macbook Air. I picked up the M1 version (not the latest) and have been thrilled - very lightweight, great battery life, nice display. Photoshop and PSE run great. Connect a external drive and you are portable and on your way. The M1 starts at $999 (and that base model is fine).
2) Invest in an online solution like Flickr. Store all your photos there. Then from whatever device you have, you can display your photos. This does require some form of internet connection. You will probably have to pay an annual fee, but you can pair it with something like your iPad.

It might help if we knew what kind of iPad he already has? That makes some difference in method.

Just a question, other than Elements 2023 Mobile beta, what version of elements runs on a what version of iPad?
The elements system requirements does not list iPad.

Hi,
Thanks cjt and others.
I have an Mimi iPad 4 which I only use for my birding Apps.
I have a phobia about personal identity security and use absolutely non of the social media Apps.
I have never used anything other than WhatsApp, Google, e-mials on my phone.
I do use various forums, mainly photographic.
My youngest son is a computer geek, but he is away doing a post graduate degree at Rhodes University.
The do think the iPad and an SD card adaptor is probably the way I would be be happiest with.
Cjt, if you are OK with me being a pain, I would like to take up your offer of help.
Andy, I'm afraid that an iPad M is way out of my budget.
