i.ibb.co/w7M2QMY/composite-1.jpgVisited Chicago recently. Spent a couple of nights in the area just S of downtown. Used to be called Publishers Row for the many printers. Also the location of the Harold Washington Library, the first black mayor. The text is from hotel wallpaper. The background is the counter top from another place. It is garnet gneiss, those dark blobs are garnets. cjt

cjt....you have chosen some interesting images to share from your trip. I think some of our members may be able to help you better integrate them for a more cohesive presentation.

I thought I would give this a try, cjt . I worked on the perspective (manually in camera RAW and then with the transform tool) and brightness of the library. I did the same with the mural and flipped it horizontally so she was looking in to the page. I brightened and moved the food away from the edge. In order to be able to move things around a bit I cloned the background to cover the library, part of the mural and over the food. I created the border in an effort to coordinate it with your lettering. Hopefully others will offer some suggestions as well but I wanted to get this started for you.

My suggestions -- although the background has significance to your overall theme - it competes with the other photos. Maybe it needs to be just another photo from the trip. Personally, I'd like to see many more of your photos.
Plus, the color and heaviness of the text competes. Things like backgrounds and journaling and titles should be complimentary and not the place your eye goes immediately.
But then again -- This is all so subjective. We all design differently and I truly believe there is no wrong way to do a collage. The only person you need to satisfy is yourself.

Helen and Janice, thanks for the suggestions. And I agree, the background and the text are too much! And I do have at least a couple more photos I could add. I do hope everyone enjoyed the "debaucherous vices" wall paper! I'll try another version and post it. cjt

i.ibb.co/KWFprdm/Chicago-again-copy.jpgAnother try. Found photo of Chicago skyline on Pexels, but, bluebird sky! Also tried a paper texture I had. Experimenting with blending and opacity and a happy accident led to this version. And the official Chicago flag. When it comes to fonts, I get lost really quickly, there are too many of them! cjt

I agree with Janice. You have found a perfect backdrop paper. I also like the addition of the printing press. The question is always am I satisfied with this or do I want to take it a step further? Looking at your layout I was reminded of a template that Janice had posted. If you wanted to try something similar....I think you might be able to modify this layout for your pictures. Janice has helped me and others navigate scrapbook creations. So I am just offering this as a possible next step.... if you want to continue. Dropbox link.

I agree with Helen's suggestion. I like when photos have a connection literally and figuratively - are closer in proximity - even overlapping. Not every corner of a page needs to have a photo. Sometimes, what we call "white space" (blank areas) is OK. As for text - I like the idea of labeling each photo - even using comments about the photo. I'd use some sort of background, like a banner, so label shows up without taking over the page.

Helen and Janice Thanks for the suggestions, again! I made another version, which I'll post in my gallery this time. And promise that I will try the "clump" idea on another set of photos. Further note, ala Buckskin, there is a Viet Nam memorial in the Harold Washington Public Library. Its position is such that photos can't really do it justice. At least with the iPhone I had along with me. I'll post one also in the gallery. PS, have I told all you guys and gals how much I like this forum?? I really do, sooo helpful you are! cjt

Your new layout really shows off that skyline background.
Of course, what you are finding out is that there are a hundred different ways to showcase your photos. 😉
