I am working to create a circle with just the person's head in it. Because I have 10 of these to do and each "head" has to be taken from small 4"x 6" photos, of course the results are poor due to being blown up to 2 and 1/2 inch photos. I keep reading that there is a smoothing feature under "Enhance" but I do not find it. I am using PSE19 so maybe that is the issue. Is there some way to do this with PSE19?

Hi Pat, I also have PSE 2019. The Smooth Skin feature is not available in PSE 2019. Adobe introduced it in PSE 2020. Try this tutorial -- Smooth Skin with Photoshop ElementsYou could also try Perfect Portrait (Guided Edit > Special Edits), which is available in PSE 2019.

Thank you so much for replying to my question about smoothing skin. Below are the results. I can't find the button that shows me my reply so I will just send this and hope for the best. The top image is the original. The one called Sally-almost-ready is the second try and the third try is Sally finally. I was looking for something that wasn't too smooth nor not too grainy. I settled on the third photo. I think she will be satisfied. I'm going to look at the post now to see if they are in the right order. Pat

Yup, that's the right order. I used parts of both tutorials you listed. This convinces convinces me that I need to sign up for the Rick Peterson PSE lessons. Thank you for the help.

Hi Frank I am very grateful to you for sending me the link to the skin soften Action. I did download it to my desktop and you can see (I hope) from the photo I am attaching what it looks like on my desktop. Problem is when I click on it (been double clicking. . . .maybe that's the problem) it flashes and returns to it's usual icon on the desktop. Maybe it's not compatible with PSE19 on a Mac (v. 10.14.6) Pat

Pat, I'm pretty sure it's not a compatibility issue. Based on you explanation it seem that you may not be familiar with how to load it into elements. Once you have Elements open, you click on Window at the top then Actions. On the top right there are multiple line, click on that and then click on load actions. Find and select the action and then click open. The Action will be loaded and ready to use. You just select it and click on the play arrow key. When you open up the actions panel it is possible that you already installed it by double clicking on it

Hi again Frank,
Well, sure enough I have your soft skin Action loaded into the PSE19 program. I found it in the window category under Actions just as you said. My question now is do I need to do all the steps listed under FotoFrank Skin Soften? I was able to get as far as the Vivid Light part, but have forgotten where that is (and am tired of looking for it).

Pat, Apparently this action is nothing like you are use to doing. To run this action, like all other actions you select the action and then click on the play button on the top. I have no idea of what steps you are talking about or getting as far as Vivid Light. When you get a popup menu you click continue or ok. When you get a popup you can use the sliders to adjust as needed. If don't know how to run an action please look for a video on the web. At this point you are on your own.

Frank,
Thank you for all your help. I was able to get the Skin Soften Action you sent to work. I think it will be useful from here on out as I have ten of these kinds of close ups to "soften." As to your assumption that I have never worked with Actions, it is correct in some ways and not correct in others. About 10 or 15 years ago I became a fan of PanosFX Actions. They were great and I used them successfully. But much water has passed under the bridge since then including the fact that I am now close to 80 and I recently had a 10 hour surgery that really did things to both my body and my head. I think the fear that my memory was going to slow me down and possibly stop me altogether is my biggest fear. So, with the help from people like yourself, I am staying in the game by continuing to do my photo books. Hopefully, this will help "exercise" my brain.
Again, my thanks. Pat
