Thought I would try this on a different subject matter... Image from Pixabay... Lillias, wow! You just added another weapon in my arsenal to process abandoned places! I'm not sure I would have thought to do this. Thank you. Hi Vicki I tried a different approach, I started with ACR; shadows and highlights; D&B; lightened eyes and finally Nik filters. The original is from Pexels. Pete, however you achieved the look, it really worked! Well done!

Thanks for this VickiD . Quite fun. Miss Clive-does-not-follow-directions-well Simpson (Grade 8) would be proud of me. I had no idea what I was doing, but got through your excellent directions in one try. (PSE 2023) Gaucho, Rio Puelo, Chile, March 21, 2009. Do real gauchos have button-down collars?

The judge from a recent local theatre production. Certainly gave him a more severe look. Thanks for the excellent tutorial. Tony

Another one - done slightly differently - Scrooge looking more scrooge-like! Tony

Thanks Vicki. He was concentrating on the building of a woven casket kind of thing for a tree. A Native American tradition of some sort.

Clive, what a great starter image and your result is very authentic, makes him look more rugged...and, yes, obviously gauchos wore button-down collars, at least back in 2009! The judge from a recent local theatre production. Certainly gave him a more severe look. Tony, I wouldn't want to have that judge (after your alterations) at my trial! He does look quite severe! Another one - done slightly differently - Scrooge looking more scrooge-like! Tony, Scrooge does look more Scroogish after you finished with him! Great job! Thanks Vicki. He was concentrating on the building of a woven casket kind of thing for a tree. A Native American tradition of some sort. Judy, I'm sorry but your photo isn't showing at all...Hiccup on the upload? Gave it another try... Original from Pixabay

Tom, great job on his face and the background you added fits his expression perfectly! - Applied Topaz ReStyle (Play Time). - Applied the High Pass filter. - Applied a gradient by Blake Rudis (Purple to Blue, Soft Light blending mode, 50% Opacity). - Image from Pixabay. Nicely done, as always, Sepiana! The finished image is so much more dramatic! Another try. This time I used a tutorial I had saved in 2011. Original from Upsplash Interesting...the final product looks a lot like the Dragan Effect, only less saturated. Pete, care to share your source for the process you used?

Pete, care to share your source for the process you used? Hi Vicki I used a video tutorial that is no longer available. It had over 20 steps ... but in my search for that video I came across this tutorial which has less than ten steps. Check it out www.photokiakotos.com/the-photographers-blog/dragan-effect BTW, there are two videos found here. One is an interview of scientist/photographer Dragan. The second is the tutorial

OK, for this one I am really stuck trying to choose from a host of compelling images using Impresso Pro by Jixipix. I include but one of them below.

A scientist, a musician, a photographer, and a movie producer. He's so young to have accomplished so much! Anyway, thanks for sharing. I love that this one uses smart objects/filters because I frequently feel that I should have done things differently after progressing in a series of steps and this allows me to go back and tweak it. This is super interesting!

Tom, you keep torturing youself by making multiple versions. LOL I'm going to break one of my rules and tell you that I like the middle one best! Great job on both that you shared.

kdcintx , Excellent! I read somewhere (actually at Pete's link), that this style was for older men, and I know that a younger woman without wrinkles wouldn't appreciate it, but this one is excellent. I also like the fact that you didn't get very heavy-handed with the grunginess of the process. You showed restraint with this.
