Make a White Background
NOTE:
Select > Subject was introduced in Elements 2020; this new feature is powered by Adobe Sensei. You just click once and Elements automatically selects the main subject in your image. If Elements is not intelligent enough, you can edit your selection -- Add to selection or Subtract from selection. You can also invoke Select > Refine Edge.
Back in Elements 11, Adobe introduced an updated Refine Edge (brought over from Photoshop).

We will start by using Photoshop Elements to remove the background, then replace that with a new white background, and then replace it with a colorful gradient background. The secret to changing a background with Photoshop Elements is to first make a clean selection then use that to remove the original background, you are then free to add any new background that you want, whether it is white or a different photo.
