2. Fill with an off-white background color (Hex Code e6e6e6).
a. Go to Edit>Fill Layer (Edit>Fill in Photoshop), select Color and click on it. When the next window opens change the Hex Code.
b. Click OK on each screen.
3. Unlock the Background layer by clicking on the lock.
4. With the Lasso Tool (Shortcut L) draw a very jagged opening.
5. With the selection complete, press Delete on your keyboard.
6. Save as a PNG file type.
7. Save it with a file name and in a location that you will remember.
Note: Windows keys are Ctrl and Alt. MAC keys are Command (CMD) and Option. The + is just to indicate an addition key. It is not typed from the keyboard.
Let’s get started:
1. Open an image that you want to create a Torn Pop Out from.
2. Open the PNG file that you created or downloaded from the web.
3. With the PNG file open press Ctrl/CMD+a (Select All). You should now see the marching ants selection. Now press Ctrl/CMD+c to copy.
4. Go to your image layer and press Ctrl/CMD+v to paste it. You should now have two layers. You may need to resize the cutout layer. If you need to resize, press Ctrl/CMD+t and drag the corners to fit.
5. Duplicate the cutout layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
6. With the top cutout selected – go to Filter>Texture>Texturizer Feel free to season to taste the Texture, Scaling and Relief sliders for your image. Then click Ok.

9. Add a Drop Shadow to this layer.
10. Select and duplicate the Background layer.
11. Drag it to the top of the layer stack. You can hold down the Ctrl/CMD key and click the right square bracket key ] a few times to move it to the top.
12. Desaturate this layer (Ctrl/CMD+shift+u).
13. Create a Clipping Mask between the desaturated layer and the cutout. Go to Layer>Create Clipping Mask or with the desaturated layer selected press Alt/Option+Ctrl/CMD+g. In some older Elements versions, it is Ctrl/CMD+g.
14. Change the Blend mode of the desaturated layer to Darken.
15. Select and duplicate the Background layer.
16. Drag this layer to the top.
17. Add a Hide All layer mask. Hold down the Alt/Option key as you click on the layer mask icon.
18. With the layer mask selected you can now paint with a white brush to bring back some of the original image to give it that pop out effect.
19. As an option you can add a border to your image. To add a border, do Select All (Ctrl/CMD+a), then Edit>Stroke (Outline) Selection and select your Width, Color and Location. Then click OK. If the border is too large or too small press Ctrl/CMD+z to undo and adjust your settings as needed.
