How to Use Smart Object Layers
NOTE
Files dragged from the Photo/Project Bin onto another file in the workspace will behave differently depending on which Elements version you have:
PSE 13 and later versions -- They will come in as a Smart Object.
PSE 8 through 12 -- Not as a Smart Object.
PSE 7 -- As a Smart Object.
The option to disable the automatic creation of Smart Objects when you use the File>Place command or when you drag a file from the Photo Bin onto another file in the workspace was introduced in PSE 15.
To add more functionality to Smart Objects in Elements, you can use Elements+, an add-on created by our member -- Andrei Doubrovski.
