Bohemian waxwings in our neighbors' ornamental apple tree this afternoon. They moved on once they realized these were few dried fruit on the tree.

You hit the focus bob on there, Clive. Lovely, sleek birds too.

Which Sony do you have, Clive? Mine has animal eye focus but doesn't seem to work on birds. Which is annoying...the number of times focus hits a twig instead drives me mad, even when I use manual with peaking.
At wide aperture for nice, shallow dof even an inch makes a huge difference, as you'll know. 🥴

@howard I have the A7IV...it has human, animal and bird eye focus. It's set on bird eyes permanently. I should assign eye focus to a spare custom button. My A7III does not have eye focus. Love my A7IV. A young friend just bought the A1. Sizzle. But hard to justify the price.

the number of times focus hits a twig instead drives me mad, even when I use manual with peaking. This white-throated sparrow was in a tangle of chokecherry twigs and the eye focus locked on well. It fails on occasion, but generally works well. MF with peaking is good but with the focus magnification turned on, unless you are using a tripod, it is so hard to find the primary subject. Love my A7IV. I am tempted to get the A1 but it is soooooo expensive and I just bought the A7IV. I am old and spending $6,500 USD on a body is beyond my mental ability.

The technology these days is quite incredible, isn't it. But yes, expensive too. I must admit I miss my original A7 in some respects - technically it has been well superseded but I loved the small form factor and weight. It felt much more like an proper analogue camera. It will be some time before I upgrade again, but then its the lens that matters just as much, if not more, and I love my Zeiss. Keep up the great work, Clive!
