Pretty decent show last night ... Looking north over the Alberta Birds of Prey gift shop across the road from our house.
Moon and Venus
Straight up ... overhead

Apparently the southern Aurora has been very active and visible lately, unfortunately I’m not in a location to witness it.

Apparently the southern Aurora has been very active and visible lately, unfortunately I’m not in a location to witness it. You need to be somewhat away from city lights. And when looking south it is best of the horizon is somewhat free of lights. The lights here have been so good that people have posted photos from downtown Calgary. Not usual. There is likely a Southern Lights ( Aurora Australis) Facebook group. Our Alberta Aurora Chasers FB group has over 200,000 members of which most live in Alberta. When it's happening there are constant real-time posts from "the field" showing what's happening. Some people will drive for 1 or 2 hours to get to good light-pollution-free or cloudless locations. I walk across the road and take photos 120 m from our front door as there is just farmland beyond the park. Quite funny comment from the FB admins: WARNING: Aurora Chasing is known to cause nighttime insomnia and daytime drowsiness resulting from FOMO Syndrome (Fear Of Missing Out). We are not responsible for any loss of employment resulting from lack of sleep due to Aurora addiction
