Creative Effects Challenge No. 202 – Dreamy Black and White *** UPDATED ACTION***
This Creative Effects Challenge will show you how to create a Dreamy Black and White image using Layers in Photoshop Elements or the full version of Photoshop.

Please read thru the entire tutorial before you start.
Let’s get started:
1. Open an image that you want to create a Dreamy Black and White from.
2. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
3. Desaturate this duplicated layer (Ctrl/CMD+shift+u)
4. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
5. Apply a Gaussian Blur. Go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Set the Radius to 30 or season to taste. Then click OK.
6. Change the Blend mode of this layer to Screen.
7. Set the Opacity of this layer between 70% and 80%.
8. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
9. Change the Blend mode to Multiply.
10. Add a Levels adjustment Layer.
11. Click Auto on the Levels adjustment dialog box.
12. You’re Done.

But there’s more, this tutorial includes an action. The action now has 4 versions. Version 1 uses the Screen and Multiply Blend modes, while Version 2 uses the Lighten and Darken Blend modes. Version 3 uses a layer group with a mask and allows you to bring back some of the color in the image. Version 4 does the same without the uses of a layer group. It does merge the B&W layers and adds a mask.
To bring back some color just paint with BLACK on the layer mask at a low opacity (15 - 25%) to bring back some color.

The Action includes an Undo that Revert your image back to its original state. Feel free to experiment.
