I see these fender seats on many European tractors; I think it is a quite handy feature and a lot safer than the rural Kentucky method of plopping the kids on a bare fender and telling them to stay out from under the wheels. I have had to ride Kentucky style many a mile, else walk out of some back holler creek bottom. It was not uncommon to have two on each fender and one standing on the drawbar, hanging onto the edges of the fenders for dear life. In such situations, there was always some ignorant horse-playing cousin or neighbor kid who was constantly either trying to get hisself killed or get you killed. In case you haven't gathered as much yet, most Kentucky parents are not too thoughtful of the welfare of their youngens. As for the linked photo, I thought the kids on the fender seat were cute as well.
