I've never been able to capture fireworks. Ahhh, but we all have different areas of interest. You could take fireworks pictures and create an equally impressive scrapbook page. Thanks for the article WayneS. I hadn't heard about drone displays. |

I've never been able to capture fireworks.
hmca is the fireworks picture taking expert and seems to have it well in hand.
Where I was messing up on my first ten thousand or so attempts was I was trying to anticipate the "burst" and snap the shutter at the critical moment = just a miracle if one times it right.
Not sure how hmca does it; but, a way that works for me, providing the surroundings are dark enough, camera on tripod, is to set a very long exposure and hopefully some fireworks will go off during the duration.
I have some close neighbors, about half-a-mile, who blow thousands of hard-earned dollars on fireworks at every occasion; if a holiday occurs on Saturday, they will have preparatory fireworks on Thursday and Friday nights; really burn them up on Saturday night; and then, taper off Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights until they run out of ammunition and money to buy more.
Although I worry that they may burn a barn down, there is one advantage to this constant barrage; I can sit in the saddle and fire my .45 or .30-30 and Henry doesn't even flinch and I didn't have to waste a shell getting him gun broke. |

Manual mode, ISO approximately 100, f 10 and Bulb setting. I have gotten pretty good at knowing when to push the remote and approximately how long to hold it down. |
