As per a bit of discussion HERE
I recently had a brainstorm and, with abundant help from someone on another site, came up with a script or what-have-you that will create same-named Text Files alongside all image files in a folder.
I make a sample Text File with all pertinent information that applies to ALL the files in the folder; and, when I enact my command, all the Text File mates will be clones of this sample, with the exception that they will have the individual Name at the top.
These Text Files reside in the folder alongside my image files; and, having the same identical name as the image file mate, most renaming programs will treat them the same as any file pair.
I load these Text Files with all the information pertaining to it's image file mate; EVERYTHING; Title, Caption/Comment, ALL GPS data, the entire heirarchy of every KeyWord Tag, Who, What, When, Where, Why, Exact Date and Time of capture...., everything and anything to do with the image and what is in the picture.
This is not nearly as much trouble as one would think as you should be loading all of this within the image file itself anyway and it is a simple move to just paste in in the Text File at the same time.
These Text File mates accomplish several useful things besides the obvious task of having a description of the image.
If something terrible were to happen to my meticulously applied data within the image file itself, anything that may become lost or corrupted is right there within my Text File mate.
WARNING Many image programs will corrupt and destroy the information loaded within the image file, causing you to have to reinstate it after the fact; many, including older versions of Elements own Organizer, will corrupt the Date/Time Taken stamp = one of many reasons I never use The Organizer.
I can't speak for any version except Elements 7; it will strip away all embedded comments when saving files, forcing one to have to reinstate them into the finished files; so, having this information saved in a Text File comes in quite handy.
Most image programs never know the .txt files are residing alongside the image files and ignore them; ........ although, it would be nice if there were a switch that one could turn on such that the image program would also display the .txt file.
When I enact the command to create these "Sidecar" Text Files, it happens instantaneously --- Click and there they are.
If anyone is interested, I will dig up the links to the instructions as to how to write the scripts.
