Loving that drizzly day house, Clive. Thanks Jim. It is an excellent set up for photos. Clean background...nice side slopes ... no power lines. Coincidently, today I visited the ranchers who own this property. I asked for permission to enter this property around the old house to get close daytime photos. It also has potential for aurora photos. The down sides are you have to walk about 200 meters off the county road and last summer I photographed two grizzlies bears in a barley field across the road. I would never go in there alone in the dark. |

This scene or similar has been posted on PSEM before. I opened the original image and processed it as the instructions for the challenge. This tourist train for for people with deep pockets. See bottom image. Here... The train does not come here anymore. In 2010, it would stop at the Cowley siding and the sports were bussed to nearby Waterton Lakes NP  Sample pricing!! Ouch!!  |

Makes an excellent subject for sepia - I had to look up CP 4107 and it has quite a history - originally built in 1957 for CN and subsequently run by VIA and Ohio Central before the current CP. I think I may have been on it in one of its earlier incarnations - it was a lot cheaper in those days! Tony |

Had to try an in-camera sepia which has the advantage, at least in my mirrorless camera, of seeing sepia in the viewfinder. Not sure that it was much help and I did finish up doing some editing to take some red out of the sepia. Here's where I finished up:  Tony |

Sepia is hard for me as I really don't like the red tones that are inherent in the look. I did try to increase the red in this image taken yesterday. I thought might be a good subject.  |

I really don't like the red tones that are inherent in the look. I did try to increase the red in this image taken yesterday. Agree. I love sepia photos and should do more. But it is easy to overdo the effect. Less is more holds true. Your lighthouse is pleasing. |

The lighthouse does make a good subject for sepia and I agree it is a balancing act to hit the most pleasing colour and I suspect everyone has a different idea of most pleasing! What I find curious is that I'm finding that the sepia colour looks a bit different every time I look at it. Maybe it's my old eyes or my screen (which is supposed to be calibrated) or the application I'm looking at it in. Any theories as to why this might be?

However, colours we see are affected by context. See here and here. This topic has been posted on PSEM before. I made this graphic a few years ago ... copied idea off the internet. The balls are exactly the same color. The context makes them appear different.   |

I suspect everyone has a different idea of most pleasing! For sure! I haven't noticed a change of tone when viewing on my phone or computer but perhaps my vision isn't as keen. Interesting chart, pontiac1940. |

This I took last year and decided to convert to sepia tones due tot he subject matter. I was pleased with the result so printed it to hang for a while. I chose Awagami Kozo Select paper, a very lightweight (42gsm), semi-transparent paper with a definite natural yellow tone. It seems perfectly suited and the end result looks like it's from early last century. From memory I just used a heavy sepia filter in PSE with a bit of jiggery pokery in DXO Analogue Effect to add vignette, fade etc. It's taken at Cabanes-Du-Breuil, near Sarlat in the Dordogne ( Link).  |

I like the yellow tones of your sepia choice. It was interesting to read the history of the stone cabins and see the man at work on the miniatures. Looks like a great place to tour and enjoy.
