When attempting to download photos like I usually did, with a USB cord plugged into my Fuji HS50 camera, the computer, via either File Explorer, Elements or Lightroom, the camera and card are seen but the file says "no valid file found" or says "15gb free out of 15gb" even when there are several multi MB photos on the card.
But when I remove the SD card from the camera and insert it into the card reader on the computer, the photos show up fine.
The only difference between when everything worked fine from the camera/cord setup and now is I now have a new Windows 10 operating system on a new quad core AMD A-10 HP 12 GB RAM computer. I recently transitioned from a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7.
What is going on do you think?

Hi gfmucci, welcome to PSE&M!
I am going out on a limb here and saying that it looks like this issue is related to your new OS -- Windows 10. See if the suggestions in this Microsoft document will help. They are for Windows 7 but they should apply to Windows 10 as well.

Thanks for the link to that page. Unfortunately, none of those potential solutions apply in my case. I think you are on a pretty sturdy limb with your suggestion that it is a Windows 10 issue. I never had this problem as recently as a few weeks ago using Windows 7.
I notice on another board that a Nikon user is having the same problem with Windows 10.
I went to Fuji and also did a Google search and don't see any other complaints (except the Nikon user), and no solutions yet.
Someone else reminded me that downloads are typically much faster with the SD card directly in a computer card slot than using a USB cable from the camera. So this might be the thing that causes my workflow habits to change.

gfmucci,
I know this is going to sound lame but . . . have you tried a different USB port and/or cable? Just to make sure to leave no unturned stone in the troubleshooting process?
What about posting in the Fuji forums? -- www.fuji-x-forum.com/ or in the Windows 10 forums -- www.tenforums.com/

While I can't comment on whether this is a Window 10 issue, I would like to add that I've inserted the sd card directly into the computer slot for a number of years, as I found it was much quicker and more reliable than using a cable.

If you can't see the files via File Explorer when the card is in your camera then it's unlikely you'll be able to see them in any application (Lightroom etc) because all applications usually access the OS to get lists of disks, files etc.
To me it sounds like Windows 10 doesn't have the correct driver to see the files on your card when it is in your camera connected to your computer via a cable. You might be able to download the latest driver, if you already don't have it, from the camera manufacturer's web site and hopefully it will be Windows 10 ready.
But if you have an SD card slot on your computer, that is the way to go imo. Reading files from your SD card will be much faster from the SD card slot than from your camera or card reader anyway.

I gave up using the USB connection years ago and just read the card via the SD slot in the computer. I always set the write-protect tab first so I don't mistakenly delete the photos.
