This is the view from a hanging bridge over a ravine, through a slat in the bridge. Had to lay down on my tummy to get it! (...the things we photographers do to get a picture.....). ....so my challenge to you is - what crazy thing did you do to get a photo you really wanted???  |

Great fun srmoment . I am quite the "chicken" so never do too many crazy things. Well, lots of crazy things (that's what she says  ) but not dangerous and crazy. I am bothered when I see someone in a precarious position high up but oddly not overly bothered if it is me. This was pretty tame as I was only about 20 feet above the ground. Still a fall would not have ended well. (Remember I am a wimp and not likely to do something that is actually dangerous.) We were at Writing on Stone Provincial Park in February, 2009. It is a lovely place in the off season. I wanted this photo and had to crawl on my belly on a ledge and hang my head and arms out over the ledge to get the photo. (Somewhere I have photos taken out of a "no doors" helicopter flying high over Kilauea Volcano.)  |

Never do anything even remotely dangerous. Heck, I can't even get near an edge - my stomach turns and I get dizzy. So, I guess, my photos are all boring. LOL

OK....no picture to show for my effort as it was lost on an EHD that died. However, being my "adventure" was a bit different I'll share the story. It was around 8 years ago. We had a significant snow. Sandy Hook where I often go for photography was closed a good part of the day. In late afternoon I got the brilliant idea to go take some pictures. It was bitter cold and the park was pretty much deserted. I told my husband where I was going and that I would call when I got there which I did. The snow was near the top of my knee high boots and there was no one in sight as I trudged along. I knew where I wanted to go but kept thinking that if I fell it would be awhile before anyone found me. I will attach a picture that shows part of the route......my destination was at the very end of the furthest trail in the background of this picture.....and it took awhile to get to where the picture starts. Oh....and my husband was already in the car on his way out to the hook when I finally called him to say I was heading home. It was a beautiful sunset with ice floats on the river....a river with a strong current that never freezes.

I got carried away. And might post another later. In Feb 2012, were hired a helicopter to fly us over lava flows on Kilauea. The next year, we took a boat ride to watch the lava flowing into the ocean. That will be part II . . . below. This was pretty tame. We were in the back seats with the doors off and we both had excellent views. I was shooting with one camera and my wife with another. I took a lot of photos and was never concerned about the doors being off (we were strapped in well) until I looked at the view below with my eyes vs through the camera viewfinder. A major gulp moment. Great fun. The boat ride the next year was better. I'll try at get it done tonight srmoment . Thanks for the fun topic.  |

When we were on the Big Island in 2012, lava was not entering the ocean so we took the helicopter ride. Lava was flowing into the ocean in 2013, so we took a boat tour to watch the spectacle. Amazing. Not overtly dangerous but you sign your life away to get on the boat. The biggest danger? The entire interior of the boat was steel and the ocean was rough. Hitting your head was the biggest threat. In 2018, Kilauea lava flows increased and took out large inhabited areas in the Pahoa municipality. The house we rented in 2012 was destroyed along with many others.  |

Amazing photos - I was in a helicopter once (it had doors) - I kept grabbing for a 'dashboard' but there just wasn't one to grab. Yikes.

Clive, that's just crazy - who goes chasing a lava flow!!! I rode in a helicopter with a glass bottom and that freaked me right out!!!
I was a tame 15-20 feet above the bottom. I was more in danger of other hiker/tourists trampling me. I could hear them asking themselves what the crazy lady was doing. It was like I was at the center of a herring ball!
