For this challenge I will ask you to dive into your creative minds and illustrate the following quote from the movie - Forrest Gump.
'Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.'
You are free to use your own photos, stock images, generative AI images if you have PS, drawings etc, in any format of your choosing, ie composites, scrapbook pages, special editing effects.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's interpretations of what this quote means to you, hope you enjoy the challenge!

Thanks for taking on the challenge, Jacki. At first I got myself hung up on the box of chocolates. But thinking about it I realized how open ended this quote is in terms of the ups and downs of life. For my first illustration I concentrated on the idea of making choices.....which candy/path will you choose. The image is from StockSolo of a young man heading out to follow his next step in life....be it his dream/career/travel....whatever. He's made his choice.....how it will work out is still unknown......but will he make the best of it/learn from this new experience?

Great start to the challenge Helen and Frank. Thanks for playing. Helen, your image is very thought provoking and I think we've all been on that road at some point in our lives, it's not the destination that's important but the choices we make along the way. Frank, LOL, those chocolates must surely be imported..., I've also used the same prompt and had very similar results.

True story ... On September 14, I was walking in the river valley with a friend who I had bumped into on the path. After a while, we heard a strange noise and went to the river bank to see a riderless horse coming toward us but down on the river edge below. At that spot, there was quite a drop so there was no trying to "catch" it. (And I am hardly Roy Rogers anyway. ) The horse was in no hurry and seemed calm. Far behind the horse, a lady was splashing in the river and trying to catch up. She was okay and not injured. We all figured the horse would stop up ahead because the rocky and grassy bank eventually changed to steep clay banks. She had been riding this newly broke horse in the water and all was fine until the horse's belly touched the water. It spooked, the rein broke away, she got dumped and the horse ran off. The horse did stop and was calm as she approached it and allowed her to jump on. All's well that ends well, but Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

I have been scratching my head for an offering to it. Thank you Tom. I too had been scratching my head. At the end of every month, I go through all of the day sub folders in the month's master folder. I aggressively delete images that never made the cut .. day by day. I delete the majority of the photos taken that month. It takes an hour or two, but worth it. Then I back up the month's decent photos onto two hard drives and delete the month folder on my main SSD to keep it somewhat empty. (I bought my "new" camera in October, 2022 and the last photo taken yesterday was number 55,370. So I must be aggressive. Flying birds chew up a lot of film. At my age I will never ever go back and look at the images that never made the first cut sub folder. I digress. ) Anyway, I saw the horse photos in the September 14 folder and immediately it hit me: that lady never knew what she was going to get that day. Now I need to think of another suitable photo story. Thanks for your kind words Tom. Clive

Love your storyboard Clive, I think that lady's luck was in on this occasion, glad it all worked out for the best. As for your photo taking stats, I am flabbergasted!!! Thanks Jackie. It was a fun event as the lady was not hurt and the horse was fine. She learned a lesson. As for shooting a lot. Birds and animals that are in the "wild" consume a lot of film. (You know what I mean. ) I did a super quick look and took ~ 22K photos in June, July, August and September. Flying birds, deer, bears, small birds, etc. If there is a good opportunity, I shoot a lot. I recall taking 800 flying osprey one afternoon. This wee bird (below) is a ruby-crowned kinglet. They are fast, small and are almost constantly hidden behind leaves and twigs. Think I took ~300 photos of 3 or 4 of these in about one hour. The only saving grace is that I have a pretty good work flow to narrow them down. And I delete hard at month's end. Taking wildlife photos is like a box of chocolates. When you go out for a walk on most days you never know what you are going to get. Fun topic Jackie. Thanks.

Not sure if this meets the criteria of the challenge but...what I’m trying to say is ‘life happens, and it can be full of surprises - like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. It’s our choices and attitudes that can make a difference to the direction and also quality of our lives. Image from Pixabay other additions all from HiClipart.

Like how bright and tempting your chocolates look, Frank. Perfect photos, Clive. So true, Lillias. After seeing Clive's pictures I wanted to find a picture of my own to use. I chose this picture of an old alley cat that my daughter stopped to pet while we were on vacation in the Bahamas.

Lillias, your page fits the quote perfectly, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Helen, ginger cats are one of my favourite things, he looks as if he’s enjoying the Pat from your daughter. When you say ‘alley cat’, I think feral or wild, and I think sometimes they are not so friendly, so this interaction could’ve gone awry, glad it didn’t.

Clive, your photo walks sound a lot more exciting than mine! However, yesterday when I was out walking the dog, other walkers alerted me that there were a couple of kangaroos hanging about further up the path, not something I really wanted to run into with my greyhound in tow. Thankfully I didn’t see them, they can be so unpredictable.

This image from quite a few years ago came to mind as I'll be going to the same event where it happened in a couple of weeks - and yes that is me. I'd given my camera for safe-keeping to someone in the audience and they'd captured this shot with it at the perfect moment. It was all in a good cause but this particular pie thrower really took the job seriously and I was a mess! Thanks jackscrap for an interesting and different creative challenge. Tony
