they sure are closer than the last pictures you shared! Thanks. Yes, close. If I am correct, this bear and its nearby (probable) sibling were born in 2021 and I photographed them in the same "wash" in October 2021. They are the right size for that age and this one has those blond patches on either side of its jaw which one of the 2021 cubs had. They have seen people ever since they emerged from the winter den in which they were born so they tend to ignore people and just go about eating. They bulk up for winter hibernation and gorge in carbs...anything edible...mainly plant material. This was special because it was close in in excellent light...a rarity. These bears along Red Rock Parkway (in WLNP) live about 90 minutes from our house. A lovely place to visit in early spring (May) and fall. Way too many people for me in summer. A good afternoon. |
