I am cleaning up my files - found these
I started learning PSE in 2004 -- after using every greeting card program out there, thought I'd join the 'big leagues' - Discovered scrapbooking when I found a book called "Digital Scrapbooking in Easy Steps" The book had projects you did and while doing the projects, you learned various PSE techniques. These beginning layouts were created in 2007 - earliest of my layouts that I could find - don't know if there are earlier layouts somewhere These are my own designs using the PSE techniques I was just learning - I used these techniques in just about every layout in those days I was just learning about preserving pixels - I'm sure the camera was good enough, but I was careless when copying and using photos so you can see these photos were not very good quality. Then I found templates - and I'm still a huge fan of templates - even if you do not use them as designed, they are a great jumping off point Notice I had already learned to clip text to scrapbook paper - and those were the days when everything had layer styles. This is still one of my favorite layouts.

Don't have a date for this one (the date on the page is the photo date, not layout date) but look at that wonderful attempt at making torn paper - I remember why the photo was shaped like that - I was cutting off undesirable parts of photo I assume this was created earlier than Sea World These layouts bring back so many great feelings of when I discovered this wonderful hobby
I now have thousands and thousands of layouts - not sure where they all are...

Always like seeing your layouts, old or new, Janice. I especially like the lettering on the one above.

I had found a gold layer style - that’s what’s on the lettering - but I’ve since lost that and some other really great layer styles. I have many many hard drives, but accessing them from an Apple when the backups were made from Windows machines is beyond my current skills

Those are very interesting and informative posts, Janice. Although I'm not a "scrapper" (if that's the correct term?) I enjoy seeing composites that experienced digital scrapbook creators like you create. As Helen mentioned I really like the colored font in your Autumn display a lot.

Thanks Jim. I like to share layouts and describe techniques to encourage people to give this hobby a try. When I was on digital scrapbooking websites, they would often have challenges. One challenge was "All About Me" - each week, the challenge was to make a page out of the current theme or subject matter. I ended up with a chronicle of my early life. With limited photos, I really had to stretch the idea to make it work. Often times, I went for the silly... Not exactly silly, but a good memory. As you can see, I was hooked on Roy Orbison. I actually started out with Mono copies of these two albums, ended with CD's -- bought every version in between. For me, preserving memories is what digital scrapbooking is all about.

The bottom of the page - those thick lines under the journaling - that was a brush. To keep your lines straight, hold down the shift key as you drag your brush across the page. And, yeah, that outline around the photo is supposed to be off center. I was big into that back then. Still am. ______________________ My other favorite long time challenge was the alphabet one. Sometimes my page was a real stretch. Here is when real desperation hit - I had run out of ideas I had already done x-ray and xerox for other alpha challenges.

Your X page convinces me that you could make a page from almost anything, Janice! I really like everything about that page.....hope you were pleased with it in the end. I like the inspirational phrases on the green paper.

I do enjoy when I go off on a tangent. One never knows what will result
