I have two catalogues, the biggest one being 41,000+ photos. I've just bought PSE24, installed it, and set it to import/convert my PSE22 Catalogue. It appeared to be going ahead, slowly, until at the end it told me that the conversion failed and I should check it in PSE22 before uploading it. I went back to PSE22 and did everything I could to Reconnect Missing Files (none - I'd already done that fairly recently), Optimise and Repair. Everything came up as being OK.
Back in PSE24 I have tried to convert the catalogue again - but I can't find it. I can see where it sits (D:\User\Pictures\Adobe) by looking at PSE22 but when I take PSE24 to the same folder my catalogues aren't visible.
The only other thing I can come up with is to uninstall PSE24 and reinstall it so that it can go off in search of the file on its own (it's already found it once). Or is there something else I'm missing?

I've done a bit more research through this forum and came up with these instructions from michelb on 29 Dec 2019 "If you need to convert the catalog manually, use the catalog manager (file >> manage catalogs; convert button; navigate to the catalog to convert). You get the location of the previous catalog from the 2019 version: menu Help >> system info." link
Which tells me: Current Catalog: Catalog Name: Senior 21 Catalog Location: D:\User\Pictures\Adobe\Senior 21\
I then went to PSE Help and searched on 'Catalogue Conversion Fails' and located the file pse-conversion-log_My catalog-1.txt to look for the name of the file that is causing catalog conversion failure at the end of the file. I found the txt file and the last line says: "conversion log: The catalog has been converted for use with this version of Elements Organizer." The file is dated today's date so I know it is current and not one from a previous conversion.
I'm now really flummoxed!

I haven't studied the workings of Organiser and catalogues all that much other than to let Organiser show all photos in the Pictures folder when opening and letting it backup the catalogue when it closes down. I can't really help with the current problems you are having but wonder if it has anything to do with the disk space message you have been receiving?
I read you have 41,000 photos stored. That is quite a number. Photos coming off a camera can be around 3 or 4 megabytes each and 41,000 at that size would require a lot of disk space, perhaps really more than is available. My main back-up is on a 1TB external USB drive and I do this backup manually. It could be worth trying to do a second back up all your photos onto a clean large USB external drive to see exactly how much disk space they do take up. The available disk space on the drive you are currently using for back-up could be the basic cause of the troubles being experienced. Just a thought.
Windows own photos app does a pretty good job of showing a collection of photos. Using that could be an alternative for you.

ChrisAnn, sorry to hear you are having this problem. I installed PSE 2024 on two computers (Windows 11 Pro and Windows 10 Pro). I didn't encounter this problem. Don't uninstall PSE 2024 yet! I'm sending a PM to michelb. He's best qualified to address this issue; he's our in-house Organizer guru. Hang in there!

Thank you Sepiana, your help is much appreciated as always.
Mart44 I don't think space is causing my problems (it could be the person behind the keyboard though!)
I store my photos on a 2TB external hard drive with 1.08TB free. I generally put my backups on the same external drive. The last one was backup.tly: 24,685KB Catalog.buc: 295,251KB
I am currently backing up to the D:drive whch has 494GB free.
I've no idea about how to convert kbs or gbs to tbs to compare.
I've used the Organizer for 20 years and can locate a particular photo within 3 minutes of searching by using it. I'd be loathe to change to something else after all those years.

I've managed to convert the catalogue. Don't ask me how, I just kept clicking until the two catalogs turned up. Both have now been successfully converted. PSE24 named the new catalogs with the old catalog name plus a 1 - I would like to give it a more appropriate name eg Senior 24 and Design 24 - is there a way I can change the name or should I just put up with it? I'm sure I gave the new catalog my own name on previous occasions.
That is also resolved. I think I am now a happy bunny but just have to find the exe files so that I can put separate icons onto my desktop. I know the instructions are on here so I'll do a search.

ChrisAnn, Great news! I'm so glad to hear your success story. Kudos to you!I had no problems renaming my PSE 2024 Catalog. I just did . . . File > Manage Catalogs > Rename. To launch the Organizer and the Editor directly . . . 1. Navigate to their .exe files. 2. Right-click on them. 3. Select Send to>Desktop (create shortcut). C:\Program Files\Adobe\Elements 2024 Organizer\Photoshop ElementsOrganizer.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2024\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
