Hi,
I have posted this on more forums than I knew existed but have to date received no answers that worked.
The latest suggestion made a week ago was that there may be a conflict between the Logitech App LogiOptionsPlus and Windows 11. I have uninstalled the App from my computer. I have switched off nearly every app from my start-up menu. From this forum board, I have just learned that there is a new update for Windows 11 in October 2023. I have probably updated my Windows since then but will check.
This problem has been the subject of many posts on the forum without anyone providing a solution. All the chats just end in frustration.
I would have expected Microsoft to have taken it more seriously, and either supplied a fix by now.
Problem with EXCEL clipboard.
My computer and operating system are below;
Computer: ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 ….. Geforce RTX graphics card……Ryzen 7
Operating System: Windows 11
Program ; Microsoft® Excel® 2019 MSO (Version 2310 Build 16.0.16924.20054) 64-bit
On opening any workbook/sheet it opens with the message
“This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe.
If you trust the links, update them to get the latest data. Otherwise, you can keep working with the data you have.” I am given the option to select Update Don’t Update Help
As far as I know, there are no links to external sources….so I select “Don’t Update” and continue.
(On some Workbooks this message does not appear.)
Just to check, I have copied all the Tabs to themselves as value, so there are no links, and saved the workbook. When I open the worksheet, the same message as above still appears. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE SINCE THERE ARE ONLY VALUES, NO FORMULAS, SO NO POSSIBLE LINKS !!!!
If I then select a range, it is highlighted. If I then select copy, I get an error message “We could not copy the contents to the clipboard, it is in use by another application. You can still paste your content within this workbook, but it will not be available in other applications.”
This occurs whether the range contains Cells with formula or only values. ( Occasionally this does not occur on the first attempt at copying, but will occur within the next few copies.)
I then select OK, and the range I am copying is again highlighted and gets bounded by a green outline of “marching ants”.
When I click on the Cell I want to copy to, green boundaries indicate the cursor position.
If I then select paste, the range is copied to the Cells I have selected, but immediately I get the same error message, “We could not copy the contents to the clipboard, it is in use by another application. You can still paste your content within this workbook, but it will not be available in other applications.”
Occasionally this does not occur, and the range is copied.
If the error message occurs, I then select “OK” and select “Esc” to cancel the previous range. The range is canceled.
If I move the cursor to another Cell to try and copy a new range the selected Cell is not “highlighted” and if I drag down to select a range, the new range is not highlighted.
If I then select “copy”, the range is indicated by green boundaries
If I move my cursor to the CELL I want to copy to, the Cell is also not highlighted but If I select Paste the contents are copied. ?
From then on, every Cell or range I select is not highlighted but is copied and pasted with no indication of highlighting. This makes it impossible to edit or construct a worksheet.
If I save and close the worksheet, it is saved with all the “copy and paste” done correctly, including the ones with no highlighting done by guess. If I then reopen the file the highlighting is working correctly…..until I try to copy something again…….
I have spent a morning on Team Viewer with our Computer Guru, Jacque.
We updated EXCEL. No difference
We performed a full Microsoft repair. No difference
We uninstalled EXCEL and re-installed it. No difference.
We uninstalled EXCEL and installed a trial version of 365. No difference.
We re-installed the original version of EXCEL.
I sent files of the program that we were testing to two of my work colleagues, who ran them without any clipboard/copy problems. They are both using Windows 10.
My IT guru tried it on his computer running Windows 11. He also had no problems.
I have spent days on the web searching forums and tutorials for a solution.
Many users have raised the same problem, and many solutions have been proposed, but nothing has worked.
My EXCEL worksheets are quite complex, and nearly all, require the selection of ranges and copy/cut and paste.
I live in hope.
