That blob near the tail might be her guts. They didn't look all that healthy when I came about them on the restaurant's sidewalk. It was raining, so this is the only photo I took of what is my first encounter with this type of bug, although I've heard of them. Seems they are supposed to blend in with the trees, but he glowed kinda copper so how well would they blend in? In fall, that color's OK - but summer? Probably not.

What an interesting subject, well spotted on the footpath. Apparently they can shoot out some stinging fluid to ward off predators, maybe that's what the blob is?

Never thought of that. Jumped to injury conclusion because when I poked her to see if it was a real insect or a twig, it moved very sluggishly. But with that much gook, she’d probably be dead. Still a very cool sighting
