I'm conscious that I haven't posted any images on the new forum (well - it's still new to me .
Partly this is because when moving house I wasn't doing much photography and then I had to remember loads of stuff that I had forgotten because of lack of practice.
Anyway here is one that has HM's approval ('Higher Management' that is, not 'Her Majesty' ......although thinking abouit it ....... )
(Yes - still very much into B&W)
NB I would have liked to get rid of the blob at the bottom but it's beyond my skills - and it is part of the tail (I think)

Thanks Jan - it was actually quite easy because at a local zoo the meerkats were in a round compound surrounded by a 5'high wall, with a floor level about 4 feet below our ground level, and in the middle was a mound that one was always sitting on to act as look out for raptors.
This meant that the one on top of the mound was at our eye level and only about 6 feet away.

HM has good judgement! I think you achieved great contrast in this B/W image, love the whiskers.

Hi Chris.....I always enjoy seeing your B/W work and this little guy has nice tonal range and detail. I especially like the focus on his eye. I downloaded your image and tried content aware fill followed by some cloning, you might want to try that as the results were better than I thought they might be. I'd be happy to post or send you my results if you would like to see them.

Thanks Helen.
Yes happy for you to post on this thread and I will see if I can remove the 'blob' to my satisfaction, as it keeps bugging me:)

That is really good Helen.
Thanks for giving me something to aim for - I wouldn't have believed it was possible to get such a good result

Ok - following Helen's lead I have had a go at removing the blurry bit.
I'd like to think that I have done as good a job as Helen.
I tried removing it by using spot healing brush and 'refine edge' but that didn't work. So in the end I kept it simple and just used the clone tool, taking care to alter original and new bits a little so that it wasn't too obvious what I had done.
This is now one of my favourite pictures so thanks Helen for giving me the push I needed.
Helen - you said you 'tried content aware fill followed by some cloning'. If you can remember (I know I wouldn't be able to was this part of the spot healing brush tool and how did you use it. I think I may be missing a trick here.

I noticed you have Elements 11. The Content-Aware Fill feature was introduced in Elements 13. Helen may have used Photoshop. In Elements 11 you could use the Spot Healing Brush tool with the Content Aware setting selected.

Thanks Sepiana - my new computer is due to arrive sometime this week and I will be installing 'full' photoshop on it. Assuming I can get it all to work I can have another go - but .... .... since today I managed to lock the screen on my new (and first) smartphone in a way that didn't require the setting up of a password (even though I now need one to unlock it) and the helpline can't understand how I managed to do it I may be some time in actually processing anything.

Chris, I think you did a great job! Sepiana is right I did use PS.....but I think you may have started the subscription yourself recently. If you did, and if I remember correctly, I made a selection around the blur with the lasso tool and then chose fill [content aware].
