A very common bug that has plagued all versions of Windows with no apparent real cure is that Explorer (file manager) will randomly quit refreshing itself and often also ignore the manual F5 Refresh command.
Once this starts, it can get quite annoying in a hurry.
Searching for a solution will yield all manner of bandaids, most consisting of eventually restarting the Explorer process in some manner or other, and all somewhat time consuming.
I have been doing a lot of intensive folder creating and file moving and one particular Explorer window decided to quit refreshing itself = create a new folder and it will not show up in the left-side folder tree; scroll to the head of the class, hilite it, and click F5, which should refresh the tree below that point and nothing happens --- except you have lost your place and will have to find it again.
I just spent a couple hours searching and reading solutions and none of them good.
Completely restarting the machine was not an option I wanted at this time as I would have to get back to where I was, which is quite time consuming.
So, I got to thinking; I have two instances of FastStone going and five Explorer windows and only the one window was not refreshing.
Instead of restarting the entire Explorer process, which would have lost my place in five windows and probably also the two instances of FastStone, I closed the offending window and started a new one, --- navigated to where I was, and this new window is refreshing itself as it should.
A little bit of an annoyance; but, not near the invasive annoyance of any of the solutions offered in my search.
Maybe my discovery will help someone else when they have an Explorer window to quit refreshing.
