When I was growing up there was a television show that involved a character called Mr. Squiggle. Children were encouraged to send in their squiggles and watch as Mr. Squiggle, (with the help of Miss Jane and Blackboard), would turn those squiggles into something miraculous. It didn't seem to matter how obscure or wonky those scratchings were, something interesting always seemed to appear out of nothing. I was hooked.... Recently, while channel surfing I came across Bob Ross, not familiar to me, but after doing some research on Google I discovered a list of his more famous quotes and this one seemed to resonate with me, not just in my efforts to create art, but in my life in general.
'There are no mistakes, only happy accidents'

I know this doesn't quite fit the quote but it's all I could think of for my first try at this, Jacki. Early in our marriage I lost my engagement ring. It was lost for months and I thought it was gone forever. We had already gone through one or two vacuum bags when my husband decided to go through one more......and low and behold he found my ring! I must have vacuumed it up after I already knew it was missing.  |

I think your story and image fits perfectly, something good came of not giving up the search. I also once lost a precious ring that belonged to my mother, was always a loose fit on my finger and of course it went missing. One day I decided to tidy up the linen closet and to my delight, there it was nestled amongst the sheets and pillowcases.

I recall watching parts of his shows on PBS a long time ago. He had a mesmerizing manner. |

Will have to give this some more thought but in the meanwhile I was playing with Firefly and typed in "there are no mistakes only happy accidents" and of many weird results this one jumped out as having possibilities except for the nonsense text - so again in Firefly I created some floral text and replaced the nonsense with it. So the end result - - a happy accident perhaps and it did remind me of some of my gardening misadventures!   Tony |

Interesting results Tony, I did the same prompt using Midjourney and got back images of Bob Ross set against landscapes that he may or may not have painted.
As for your gardening misadventures, do tell. I have learned to question the origin of any seedlings I’m given, just in case they turn out to be ‘weeds’ and not the tomato plants I was expecting 😳.

I know what you mean and most mistakes with seeds and seedlings I can recall didn't exactly result in happy accidents. One I recall was planting a package of purslane seeds to add to the salad mix not realising that here in Ontario it's one of the most prevalent garden weeds and we already had lots of it growing along the driveway - now thanks to that seed package we now have it everywhere. Apparently one plant can produce over 190,000 seeds annually. Firefly did produce some characters initially but I don't think any of them bore any resemblance to Bob Ross so I have no idea what it was thinking of. Tony |

I'm not sure how I "achieved" this but I quite like the result. I could pretend it's ICM but it isn't, it's purely a mistake. "Taken" in the Blue Mountains on a walking trail and straight out of camera. Might try adjusting it when I find time.  |

Note: This has been posted on PSEM before on September 8, 2023 in the Vanishing Point B&W challenge. I consider it a happy accident. On the September post I wrote this: In April 2004, I was working in northern China and we needed to go to Inner Mongolia for a few days. We could not fly to Hulan Bier City (in Hailar District, Inner Mongolia) as it meant flying to Beijing and then back up to Hulan Bier. So train it was and I never regretted one moment of the ~12-hour trips. (We actually took the train two years in a row.) Good times for me. I made eleven trips to norther China between 1998 and 2006.
Anyway, herewith a station platform in the middle of the night of April 28, 2004 somewhere between Harbin and Inner Mongolia. This was taken with my first digital camera a Nikon Coolpix 995 and shot at 0.3 seconds at ISO 800.I consider this and accident as I did not know what to expect. I like the ethereal, ghostlike effect. If you had a digital P&S way back then you will know about digital delay. You clicked the shutter and sometime after the next equinox the photo would be taken. I exaggerate, but the delay was close to half of one second and so if you were shooting moving subjects ... in the dark ... at 0.3 second shutter speed, well ya just don't know.  |

I had my first DSLR for only 2 or 3 weeks...September, 2005. We were driving along Highway 3 in the Crowsnest Pass and saw this moose. I safely pulled over and grabbed a couple of quick shots of the moose trotting away. I have no idea what I was thinking and why the shutter speed was set at 1/13 second. But I really like this photo. A happy accident for sure.  |
