Some of you probably know this, but I just found it out. You can get an app for your iPhone ( Android as well) that will log your location while you are taking pictures. It then saves the information in a file that Lightroom uses. Lightroom will use the time stamp to match the photos to the location, taking care of all the geotagging for you (my cameras don't have GPS). I found this so cool and handy!

I'm all for "technicality" and apps ... but, -there's one thing I don't see the use for, and that's geotagging. I guess I'm really "far out".

I think of geotagging as just another kind of keyword or tag. It makes it easy to find all shots from a specific location, or to find where I took a specific shot.

Thanks Sargenta. I can see that others make use of it, it's just me.

It is not just for Iphone(perhaps update the title). I am aware of 2 apps, Geotag Photos Pro(I have used this on both Iphone and Android) and Gpicsync.
The only time I have used it was several years ago when we were on a train trip of 50+ miles and I wanted to know where along the ride the pictures were taken in case I wanted to go back to that spot by car. I can also see a use for it if you cannot download your photos each day and tuck them away with a tag. If you need to go several days, with numerous stops, Geotagging would be very helpful.
Do not post pictures of people, house etc. that has geotagging, unscrupulous individuals will be fast to pick up on that. For this reason if I bought a camera with GPS I would not use it. To easy to forget geotagging is on.
