I am using iMac OS10.14. Can anyone tell me the way to smooth out the skin in this photo? I tried the "smooth" under "Select" > "Modify" but that does not work.

That's a tough one, Pat. Just commenting to acknowledge I have seen your post. If it were my image I might try to just go with what you have and enhance it's rather "painterly look". I will be following this thread to see what some of our members with more advanced editing skills might suggest.

Hi Pat, Select > Modify > Smooth enables you to remove the jagged edges around your selection. I'm afraid it won't help you here. Elements offers more than one way to do what you want. Would you please tell us which version of Elements do you have? |

Hi Pat, Just to clarify - you are attempting to remove a texture, not smooth the skin. At this point I would ask that you rescan your image at a much lower DPI to help minimize the texture. I'm not sure what the impact of you mentioning the very old ISO that you are using. Any newer software that may help may not work on that old version. Removing the texture is possible using surface blur, high pass, blend modes along with Topaz Photo AI. It just take a lot of playing with the image.  |

You did a great job removing the texture, Frank. I like your suggestion about rescanning the image.

Using FotoFranks image, I touched it up. Using the Enhance Menu - Haze Removal, Auto SmartFix, Auto Color Correction, Auto Sharpen, and Adjust Sharpness. Guided Edit - Perfect Portrait.  |

Yes, this is a very tough one. I wonder if the problem is because the photo has been printed with an inkjet printer? Or maybe its because its printed on photo paper with a canvas like texture. If the latter is the case, then photographing with the correct lighting (rather than scanning) could remove the lines. Is there any way to get the original digital photo? If not, then the other suggestions already mentioned can help to enhance the image.
