In the Air
The first Thursday in the month is when we kick off the month's B&W challenge. In the Air will be the February, 2024 B&W challenge. I am looking for photos of things flying or otherwise in the air. The only stipulation is that the key feature can't be supported by something on the land or ground. Can't be a leaf on a tree but could be be a falling leaf. I am easy and we can be be a little lenient on this matter. I have posted two kite photos based on the fact that they are not supported (held up) by the string. My examples were processed in ACR with adjustments to levels and contrast. They were all desaturated in ACR. Most were then adjusted in PSE using the Gradient Map Adjustment layer (with B & W set as the foreground and background "colours") to do minor level tweaks to B, W and grays as needed ... to my eye. I look forward to you "in the Air" B&W photos. American white pelican
Bumble bee hovering A dragon kite. (Picky point. Connected but not supported.)
Glider on landing approach Kite (Picky point. Connected but not supported.) The late, Kona (our granddog), leaping into the lake Very in the air...inside a small float plane The song sparrow is the primary subject but the falling snow is a key feature of this winter scene The grandkids momentarily airborne (connected to a tow rope but not supported by it)

Good subject - nothing flying here at the moment but here's a gull from the archives: I'm sure I'll find more later. Tony

Surprising myself to find some pictures for this theme in the archives. Good thinking with the lightning and fireworks Helen. Thanks to all for you submissions so far. Sidenote. Today while I was walking a pileated woodpecker was high in a tree and must have disturbed a twig or dried leaves nestled in the tree. Two cottonwood leaves fluttered down, but I could not track them. Oh well.

All good Howard. Droplets tricky for sure. (My ancient brain is telling me I might have tried that in mid last century. Hummm.) Love the airborne kid running. Same with hmca's airborne granddaughter. Good thinking!!

One more - this one didn't take a lot of converting to black and white because that's its basic colour! A royal albatross - one of the largest seabirds - 4 ft long and a 10 ft wingspan. Shot was taken at the Royal Albatross Centre in New Zealand. Tony
