Somebody else might be able to correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that ON1 comes as both a stand alone program or as a plug in. Have you looked at their training section?

There's the Perfect photo suite, with layers, enhance, effect, b&w, portrait and resize modules. And there's the Perfect Effect, which is only about the effects. (This got me confused at first )

I guess you are suppose to edit in PSE and then use ON1? There are 2 ways to use Perfect Photo Suite: 1) Assuming you have the trial version of the complete suite you should be able to launch PPS as a stand alone product. Once launched it probably opens in the browser mode which enables you to view you pics. Choosing any particular pic you should be able to open it in any of the other PPS modules (Enhance, Layers, Effects, Black & White, Resize) 2) There should be an option in PSE editor to engage the available On1 products - choose the file menu from the PSE editor and you should see the available options. Not that Browse and Layers will probably not be available. Once you've completed the changes using the available modules your image should be returned to PSE editor. I strongly suggest using the free On1 training for additional guidance. Regards, Pete

I guess you are suppose to edit in PSE and then use ON1? Perfect Photo Suite, offered by ON1 Software, is a full-featured image-editing program consisting of several individual apps. You can purchase the suite or purchase each app individually. Perfect Effects Perfect Resize Perfect Layers Perfect B&W Perfect Enhance Perfect Portrait Perfect Browse As how you use it -- It all depends on your needs and preferences. You can use it as a plug-in within Elements, Lightroom or Photoshop. Or you can skip any one of these programs and go directly to PPS as a standalone.

If you are using RAW - start in PSE and do your preliminary work there. When you are in "expert" mode - you can go to file in menu bar and go down to "automation tools" - this is where you can find all the components of Perfect Photo Suite except for Layers. (note - if you are in trial mode - these may not be there) It is a powerful program and can speed up a lot of tasks that would take quite a bit of time and effort in PSE. You can also use the program as a stand alone and then have all the parts available to you - by finding the photo that you want to work on - and have it open in Perfect Photo Suite. As of now my workflow for photos is that I start in Lightroom - go to Perfect Photo Suite and then sometimes end up in PSE - depending on what I am doing. I find somethings in PSE are easier to use. The B&W, Perfect effects, resize, portrait modules are the ones I use most. To get a feel of the program - you might want to check out their tutorial videos starting with a basic overview here: www.on1.com/products/suite9/and then for the real tips and tricks videos - go to www.on1.com/training/ where they have Quick tips, in-depth training, recorded class, onLocation and Perfect Inspiration videos. As in all programs new to people - there can be a learning curve. But once past that - I have never looked back! Good luck on your journey! ~bruce.

One caveat - when you use PPS as a standalone program, you can access all of the modules (effects, resize, portrait, etc) at once by simply clicking between tabs. When you access it from within PSE, you can only use one module at a time.

I start my workflow with Lightroom and then go into PPS or PSE, depending what I want to do. I find that PPS makes general enhancement of photos much easier to do than PSE (and it can do things LR can't). However, there are times that PSE works better.
f you are getting really creative with your photos, creating artwork from scratch, or scrapbooking, then PSE offers much more than PPS.
On the OnOne site, Matt Kloskowski is doing some short videos called Your Photo, Our Look. They are less than 15 minutes and you can see how he is going from LR into PPS (http://www.on1.com/photos//category/your-photo-our-look/).
