It seems I don't understand the catalog. I thought the Catalog folder was the structure data: tags, albums, etc. I thought the photos remained at their source location. The two worked together and were displayed as the catalog in the Organizer. A full backup made a copy of both the catalog structure and the photos. However, since installing Elements 2024, my D drive (my 1 TB hard drive is partitioned into 2 drives, C for programs, D for data) which was only half full, is now nearly at capacity. Perhaps I screwed up when I told it to make my main catalog in a custom location on the D drive. It appears that the main catalog folder has copies of all the things in the "My Pictures" folder, organized in folders based on the catalog keywords and categories. Not at all what I expected. Could someone please help me understand how this is supposed to work? I need to figure out how to recover the space on my computer drives. (My backup copy of the catalog is on a removable SSD drive). Thanks

Hi ksims7572, welcome to PSE&M! Glad you found us. I also have PSE 2024 and use the Organizer. However, I can't be of help concerning the problem you are having. I sent a PM to michelb, Adobe Community Expert and our in-house Organizer guru, bringing your inquiry to his attention. Hang in there!

After browsing through many catalog forums, I think I figured out my mistake. When I moved the catalog to the D drive, I somehow moved it into a folder that contained a backup of the catalog. UGH UGH UGH. I have now moved it back to the C drive. And will delete this misplaced backup. Obviously I am not a pro user, but I appreciate everyone who took time to respond.
