Thanks to Peterj for his post about On1 Photo Raw 2024.5 and its noise reduction capabilities. A few photographers here at PSEM use On1 but I've resisted getting new editing software. I shoot raw and use ACR inside PSE before editing in PSE 2023. Most of the time noise reduction is not needed but when needed both programs work okay ... usually. However, in extreme high ISO (noise) cases they do not do a good job. Recently, I've ben taking grizzly bear photos in the evenings near or summer place. In 2023, I saw them in daytime twice, but so far this year they have only been seen just before sunset and lighting is low. The widest aperture on my 600-mm lens is f 6.3 so shutter speeds have to be lowered and/or ISO increased. After Peter's post, I purchased On 1 RAW 2024.5 and had a go on one grizzly bear photo. Here are the results. Included are the final On1 image, my original ACR/PSE edit and the original raw image with in inset showing the unedited noise. Thank you, Peter.
Original unedited raw with a slightly lightened inset showing noise On1 edit My original ACR/{SE edit...different colour hues and values.

Sure seems like you're accustomed to the UI. Nice work!

Sure seems like you're accustomed to the UI. Nice work! Thanks Peter. The UI is different but the sliders for adjusting are somewhat familiar and intuitive. It will take some getting used to. The AI denoise feature is worth the cost of admission. I have some low-light photos from the past few weeks and months. I've started a denoise folder and one day will get to them. Clive

Keep in mind that sharpening is part of Denoise AI. I find using a single program for 95% of my needs is a huge benefit.

The current grizzly bear photos are all taken in low light with crazy high ISOs and even with a full-frame sensor there is ample noise. I am impressed with On1 RAW denoise AI. When it rains here (ha ha or snow!) to keep me inside I'll play more.

I have the full version of on1 and I love the choice to use denoise, sharpening or both....and then adjust the controls. This was done with On1. (great grizzly pics!)

Lovely whitetail fawn. On1 will take me a while to catch on. I editing one photo so far and most happy. But need to learn a lot yet to really make it work for me. I am trying to watch tutorials. Hope all is well on your side of the rocks.
