I have been a Mac guy for quite awhile now. Up until just a few days ago, I used Photos, and its predecessors iPhoto and Aperture to keep track of my photos. I have used a wide variety of editors to do this, that and the other things to my photos. I really enjoy composites and their relatives like digital scrapbooking. All you good folks who inhabit this board have helped me many times in many ways for which I do give you my sincere thanks.
But, in the Mac world, if you want to do things that cannot be done by the built-in Apple apps, you may find yourself in problems. And I have to say that I have run into problems getting any photo editing app to play nicely with Photos. There are two systems that one can use. There are extensions and there is "Edit With". And sooner or later, you are going to find some kind of issue or process or detail that just will not work. I have run out of patience with this. At five days away from birthday #86, I don't feel inclined to set about attempting to solve such issues.
So, I am now giving the Adobe photo ecosystem a shot at making life easier or at least more compatible. Going with one of their plans, using Lightroom (cloud version), Photoshop, Photoshop for iPad and Lightroom on my iPhone 14 Pro. I have put in a couple of years photos and am in the process of seeing how well this will all work.
Wish me luck, and anyone doing something similar is welcome to comment on their experience. cjt

Good luck, cjt. I mean that sincerely, not in any sarcastic way! I've never been a mac man for the negatives you mention. Last year I took on an Abobe Cloud plan, ostensibly for Portfolio to create a website but I have dabbled with PS and LR, also included in the plan. Having said that, I still really only use PSE as I don't have the time to learn the other applications and 95% of what I need is in PSE. The free fonts etc are also useful. The other thing is, as a relative youngester in this group at 61, it's inspiring to see you and others in here who are senior to me still experimenting, learning and forging ahead with new tech. I only hope I'm able to follow in your footsteps!

I agree with Howard, cjt. My only experience is with LR Classic and PSCC on a desktop. Doing additional editing in PS is a simple process and after editing in PS my image returns right next to the original. I think you will like using PS for your composites and scrapping projects.

Happy Birthday cjt, I hope to still have your enthusiasm for photo editing when I'm 86 in twenty years time!! My experiences with PSCC have always only been on a desktop, how do you cope using only a phone screen?

I switched to Mac, after using Windows since the 1980's, when I got my FIL's almost new Mac when no one else in the family wanted to learn a new system. It's been about 10 years and I haven't looked back. I'm on my second Mac and ready for my third. Never once thought of going back to Windows. I was already an iPad user and then switched to iPhones - so it's really been nice to have everything in the same 'family'
As a 20 year user of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, I continued using the Mac versions of these programs and I have not had any difficulties using the Mac's built in photo storing apps. I open a photo from "Photos" in Photoshop by either dragging it to Elements or choosing "edit with'
I've never had a problem, however, I am editing jpg's - not Raw. Plus, I don't really use iCloud for storing and retrieving photos. Since my needs are simple - a decent photo to put on a scrapbook page - I cannot claim to be an expert in photo editing and if the editing needs to be overly complex, I simple don't use the photo - so maybe I shouldn't be 'talking' LOL
Good luck with your 'journey'
