Hi, I have tried DP Review and Nikon support but am having problems logging in. I am hoping a D500 owner will be able to help, on this, my favourite forum.
A bit of history, to put my question into perspective. Yesterday I used the D500 Auto Fine Tune utility to calibrate my D500 and my Nikon 200/500mm 5,6 Zoom. I was having a slight problem with front focusing on close up of birds.
I went on a birding outing this morning. My camera decided not to co-operate. I know that I was foolish to not testing it before I left!!
After I focus on the subject ( Back button ) and depress the shutter release, my viewfinder blacks out and the exposure is taken on release. Depressing the shutter causes the camera to move downwards and the subject is moved upwards in the frame. It is is almost as if I have used delayed exposure ( but no beeps ) or the mirror has moved up before the exposure. I tried to sort it out on site with no luck. I was told that the problem wa probably connected to quiet mode?
I have had my D500 for many years and never had this happen. I have checked the menu and can't find anything obviously different to normal.
Nett result of birding outing, no keepers!!
Your help would be much appreciated.

Hi, One Hour later and I found it myself!! Nikon D500 > Custom Setting Menu > Shooting/Display > d5 (Exposure delay mode )
This should be OFF for no delay, somehow it was set to 1 sec. Possibly during course of AF Fine Tune yesterday. Next time I AF fine Tune a Lens/camera, I will check d5 afterwards.
What a wasted opportunity!!
