The snow geese have been gathering in the area for almost two weeks. Some have left but I expect more to come through. I've been out on four photography outings and got a few good photos. Took a visitor out last Thursday. We estimated there were 60,000 at Horsefly Lake. (I later "confirmed" our guess to be close by counting samples in photos.) Here is a link to a 30-photo panorama of the lake taken after a few tens of thousands had flown off for the afternoon feed in nearby fields.

Excellent photo; definitely a winner.
That many geese around = be careful where you step and check your boots before you get in your truck; a goose squirts out twice his body weight every day.

be careful where you step The uplands at the ponds across the road are far more strewn with goose droppings than around the larger lakes. But I gotta tell you, BuckSkin , a much great concern is when 1,000 fly overhead after taking off. The take-off exertion must put a lot of strain on their plumbing because they really unload.

Lovely action photo Clive. Thank you Lillias. The snow geese will leave the area in a few days and will return in late March. I am going to another lake today to see what's happening. One of my photography goals is to take a photo similar to the one posted above but of a "blue" goose. These genetic anomalies are officially called a "dark morph" snow geese. This is an adult blue goose with two juveniles. About one in 500 snow geese are "blue" .. fun stuff.
