Hello I have been using my card reader to transfer images into Elements for years now but recently the images are taking an extremely long time to transfer. One and a half hours to transfer 300 images. I am currently using Windows 7. Any suggestions to remedy this problem would be very much appreciated. Thank you Alan Ginn

Alan,
I'm not sure what is going on, but a few questions to help narrow it down: - Is it with any SD card you use, or do you have just one that exhibits the problem? - Is it an internal card reader, or external?

Hello Andy
The problem seems to be with my Lexar professional 8GB 400 x Speed card. I have no problems with my San Disk 15 MB Ultra 11 Compact Flash card. The problem is only a recent one. The card reader is Dynex external reader. I have been using it successfully with both cards up until now.
Thank you for taking the time to help me out with this problem.
Regards Alan.

Hi Alan, and welcome to PSE&M!
It certainly sounds like the card itself is the problem, but have you made any changes to your computer like adding a screensaver or changed the power settings?

It certainly sounds like the card itself is the problem That would be my first thought, if the other card isn't a problem. If you haven't tried doing a format of the card (in camera), I would try that. If that doesn't improve the situation, it might be time for a new card.

My practice is to format my SD cards *in the camera* after I've moved all the images to my computer. For my situation it takes about 15 seconds for the format. In the past 10 years I've never had a failure on any of my SD cards.

I agree, do a format each time you move your pictures to the PC or Mac and do it in camera or you are asking for trouble. I know of 2 professional photographers that did not know this and paid a big price for not formatting each time.

Hello I do format my cards after I move the images to my computer every time. I haven't made any changes to my computer. I do have another unused card of the same type etc. I will take some images with it and see how it performs and let you know. Once again thank you for all of your suggestions and help.
