In order to get some of my images off the hard drive and into the'visible' world I want to put some into slide shows that I can share with friends and family. I last tried this a few years ago and found that one problem was that people with Macs couldn't play them . So could anyone please suggest slideshow software that (more or less) meets this spec: - Free/low cost - allows music - reasonable variety of display/transitions - easy to use - can be produced on a PC - can be viewed on PC and Mac I guess a bonus would be to be able to burn to a DVD. People may have found other features useful too. I have tried searching t'internet but can't find ones that specify whether or not they can be viewed in both PC and Mac

I think the reason you could not share a PC slideshow with Mac users was that it was exported in the Windows wmv format. I am interested in your question (I have not made slideshows recently), but I think that any recent video editor should be able to produce a video in a video format like .mp4, which you can share on both platforms and which allows a much better quality. I can do that with Lightroom 5.7 and PSE13 and 14 can do it easily but with very limited effects.

Thanks Michel
You may well be right about .wmv.
One other problem I hit was ..... I had created a slideshow but then some months later I tried to run it again and it didn't work. I think that the slide show I had created was linked to - rather than had embedded in it - the images, and I guess I had moved them in the meantime.
In particular you mention Lightroom ..... I am just moving over to Lightroom and PS/CC but at the moment have only learned the basics of cataloguing in LR - I didn't realise that it can be used for slide shows too.
I'd still be interested in other options though - especially those based on experience.

I don't do slideshows, but I would use Lightroom if I'd make one. I think there are dozens of tutorials out there. I would strongly advise you to keep a copy of your pictures on an external hard disk before you delete any pictures. Slideshow in Lightroom , Julieanne Kost.

Thanks Marianne. Just watched the video and - for me at this stage - looks as though Light room will do as much as I want plus it is one less bit of software I have to deal with . I just had a quick look at my Steve Kelby LR book (brand new hardly opened it yet) and he refers to (eg) fade ins which I think are useful to give a bit of variety. That aspect seems limited compared with other more purpose made software but - again - will be good enough for me until I want (if ever) to produce more sophisticated stuff. Would still be useful to hear views of others so that people can see what might be most suitable for them and also as a resource to refer back to as skills develop. Good stuff so far that's for sure Incidentally I seem to be developing a strategy for displaying my images which is currently along the lines of .... - top quality stuff (ie I really, really like it - use specialist external printer - other stuff - get a photo book printed - holidays (say) - slide show Whereas a year or so ago it all just sat on the computer

Chris, I don't have hands-on experience with this software but I remember it was highly recommended back in the EV days. You could download the free trial. ProShow Gold

Thanks Sepiana -ProShow Gold certainly looks to be a good product.
For the time being though I will stick with my usual strategy of starting with the cheapest/free one and take it from there
