I have Premiere Elements 14 but don't know how to use it. I have a couple of video files of a sandpiper(s) and I would like to use just one or two frames, preferable in Photoshop Elements.
How do I go about this (i.e. is it worthwhile to learn premiere elements 14, or can I do this in Elements)?

Pat,
Photoshop Elements used to allow you to capture a single frame from a video and use it the way you would a still photo. However, this feature was removed in Photoshop Elements 12. The suggested alternative is to use Premiere Elements.

Do you also have an earlier version of Photoshop Elements? Version 11 and below? If so, . . .
1. In the Editor, go to File>Import>Frame From Video. 2. Click on the Browse button and navigate to the video you want. The first frame of the video will appear in the preview window.
3. Click on the Play button (or use the slider underneath the preview window) to move through the video until you get to the frame you want to capture.
4. Once you locate the frame you want, click on the Grab Frame button.
5. Click on the Done button.
NOTE:
- You can capture as many frames as you want and then click Done. - Each frame will show up in the Editor as a separate file.
- These imported frames will have a fairly low resolution; they won't yield great prints.

Thanks Sepiana. I usually get rid of my old elements so I only have 13 and 14. I guess I will have to dive into Premiere Elements......

Pat, you are most welcome! Glad to help.
I never get rid of any version of Elements. We never know what Adobe is going to remove in a new version.

Another great reason to keep older versions of Elements.

Perfect! Can't believe six years have gone by since that post! I gave up on videos but will have to give them a go again!

Hi, SRMoment! I regularly capture stills from video. I mostly shoot using Sony cameras, so I use a free program from them called Catalyst Browse that allows single frame captures. VLC Media Player (a free program!) also lets you save snapshots from video (under the Video tab). One thing I've found is that captured frames often look rather dull - but a quick Levels adjustment brings them back to life. Good luck! Harry
