Hi, I have PSE 11 and am adding a colored texture to a color image by placing the texture on the image. What I would like to do after this is just get the 'effect' of the texture but not its color. Essentially, step 6 of this photoshop tutorial: www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/blend-textures-with-photos/I found that I can desaturate the texture+image by adding a hue/saturation layer and desaturating it but can't find a way to do that for just the texture and not the background image. I suppose I can desaturate the texture separately and then place it on the image but was curious if there's an easy way to do it in one step like PS allows. Thanks!

Hi kufloyd, welcome to PSE&M!
You need to clip the Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer to the layer underneath it, i.e., to the texture layer. Then, any adjustment you make will affect only the texture layer; the background layer (image) won't be affected. In the H/S dialog, click on the box to create a clipping mask.
A tiny downward-bent arrow with a white square next to it will be displayed in the Layers panel to indicate that the H/S Adjustment layer is now clipped to the texture layer.

Hi Kufloyd.....What Sepiana has shown above will work fine. Alternately you can just select your texture layer and click command + shift + U to remove the color.
