Have purchased some really nice PSD image templates but found that they have 'non-editable' layers i cannot open in PSE 10 or 13. Is there an way (add-on?) to allow these to be edited? Does version 14 help with this?

UPDATE: You don't need an action to group/ungroup layers if you have Elements 15 and above. This is one of the new features Adobe introduced in this version.
Hi coachb,
It looks like you purchased some templates containing layer groups (or layer sets). Layer groups are a Photoshop feature (not available in Elements). They are used to organize your layers when you have too many of them; it is a very common feature in template files which consist of many layers. These layer groups can be collapsed and expanded. Unfortunately, you cannot do so in Photoshop Elements. One of the members on the now closed Elements Village forum, dconsc, created an action to group and ungroup layers in Elements. The action was written for Elements 7 but, as a rule of thumb, actions written for this version will work in Elements 8 and above.
NOTE:
The instructions included are for Elements 7 through Elements 10. Starting with Elements 11 you just load the .atn file either via the Actions panel (Window>Actions) or via the Effects panel (Effects>Photo Effects). A word of caution -- There have been confirmed reports that this action won't work when loaded via the Effects panel.

Hi coachb, it sounds like the free action Sepiana shared is exactly what you are looking for. FWIW, there is another product, ELEMENTS+, that supports layer groups and a great many other features as well. You can investigate it here: Elements+It is very reasonably priced at $12, but there is a different version for each version of PSE. Even if you don't need it now it is worth knowing about.

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the .zip file and reading the info.txt file, the instructions state to "Place .atn and .png files into this folder: [vista] C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Photo Creations\photo effects Remove the "MediaDatabase.db3" file from: [vista] C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US"
Thiese folders don't exist under Windows 7 and the Photoshop Elements follows this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\
Any idea who to use these Group tools in this scenario?

Hi geordie281, welcome to PSE&M!
I am not a Mac user but it is my understanding that the "hidden folders" feature is a Windows thing.
You didn't say which version of Elements you use. I am assuming it is version 8 through 10. If this is the case, just follow these instructions. If you use Elements 11 and above, you just load the .atn files via the Actions panel.
