I have a £20 Amazon Gift Voucher and thought it would be well spent on one, or two, books to further my knowledge and achievements using PSE. I now have v14 so it would seem sensible to buy something in line with that. Our local bookshops don't seem to stock much in the way of Photo Editing so I'm not easily able to find a shop that has such ones on the shelf that I could look at. Buying of the internet can be good but can't look hands-on before buying I already have Teach Yourself Visually for v12 I am considering: The Missing Manual - for v13, as I understand there won't be any further versions Classroom in a Book - due out 18 Dec 2015 How to Cheat in PSE - is this expected for v14? PSE 14 for Digital Photographers (Voices that Matter) - due 22 Dec 2015 - However, I'm not a photographer so would this be appropriate? As yet, I don't use the Organiser so I'm not particularly needing that aspect. Are there other books that would help further my knowledge etc re using PSE? I would very much like something aimed at designing abstracts, unusual things to do with photos, maybe even something in Digital Scrapbooking although I haven't ventured into that field. I'm sure there are loads of books amongst you all and it would be good to hear your verdicts. I appreciate it's virtually impossible to know what another person would like but I'm very interested to hear what you feel could be a good book Many thanks Julie

Julie,
I have hands-on experience with the four books you mentioned. Here is my opinion.
The Missing Manual -- It is exactly what they say; it is "The book that should have been in the box". It is written in the concept of a "manual", a resource which will help you with the ins and outs of Elements. I always refer to it by paraphrasing a familiar credit card slogan -- "Don't use Elements without it".
PSE x.x for Digital Photographers -- It is mainly a book of tutorials. In this way, it is assumed you already know the basics of Elements. I see this book as a complement to The Missing Manual. Barbara Brundage's book provides you with a solid foundation so that you can follow Scott Kelby's tutorials.
Classroom in a Book -- The title says it all. This book provides you with "lessons". You follow the lessons and you do the homework. It is an excellent book but I found that, once I was done with the lessons and the homework, I had no more use for it. I donated my copy to our local library.
How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements -- This is mainly a book of tutorials. I find it very useful when I am searching for techniques to create a certain effect.
I believe, in the end, you have to make a decision based on what you expect to gain from acquiring a certain book. If feasible, you could try getting a "preview" of these books via your local library, your local bookstore, or even via Amazon's "Look Inside" feature.
I am not sure David Asch is still publishing his "How to Cheat in . . ." series. You can always contact him via his website. Also, you can check what this book is all about.

I have bought The Missing Manual (for PSE13) and have pre-ordered Scott Kelby's book (due out in December)

Even though no v14 version is expected, the Missing Manual is well worth having. I especially like how heavily cross-referenced it is; it isn't just a complete manual, it is topics tied together in ways to allow to relocate a topic because I remember something it is connected to.
Another book I'd like to mention is Digital Expressions: Creating Digital Art with Adobe Photoshop Elements. While it is written for PSE10, it is just fun to read a project and try an idea that strikes your fancy. It full of great ideas and because it is so "old" you can get a copy on Amazon for $4 or less; A real guilt-free treat!
