This is quite a new problem for me and I would appreciate any help or suggestions in finding a solution.
Using PSE11 and Windows 8.1, after editing a file, (which is invariably a copy of a master Tiff file), and which I deem to require work done on it involving the deletion/addition of tags etc., it is saved as both Tiff and Jpeg images usually with a new name.
This saving sees the new files leave the folder the copy was in and also a temporary catalogue.
Using 'Find' they can be found in Explorer.
Using PSE 'Import' I get the response that the images are already in the temporary catalogue, but I cannot find them.
I go back to Explorer and drag the files into the folder 'Import' tells me they are in.
Back in PSE I now find the files in the correct place but all their tags are missing. These tags were written to metadata and this was checked using Properties in Explorer.
The missing tags may now be reapplied to the files and they will perform in the usual way.
Until the above situation arose about a fortnight ago, this routine has been used regularly over the years without any problems and I want to see it resumed a.s.a.p. otherwise I fear for my sanity! Under the old regime I could deal with multiple files at once but not now. Twenty three years of negatives and slides have yet to be dealt with.
One other point I should mention is my thread of 01/10/15 in which I aired the problems I was having 'Using Catalog Restore in PSE111.......'. These problems were resolved (I think) by reloading the programme, something I was thinking of doing in this new instance but now I'm not sure if it would be such a good idea.

I just tried it in PSE 14 and no problem. I did it as psd though. Shouldn't make any difference.
Have you done a repair/optimize of your catalog? If not, do that. Do both even if PSE doesn't think it needs to be done.
I haven't any idea what could be wrong.

Many thanks, Sue, for responding and trying to help me resolve my problems. I had completely forgotten about Repair/Optimize. Sadly I have to report that they have not made any difference.
You will see that there hasn't been a lorry-load of other suggestions so I think I will throw my net a bit wider for a while and if I still draw a blank, then I shall have to decide what to do next. Certainly the application is useless as it is and I'm far from relaxed at placing PSE14 on top of what appears to be a corrupted programme. Watch this space!

I'm not sure I understand your workflow.
If you are looking at a file in the Organizer, and then open it to edit it in the Editor, if you save it in a version set with the original it should show up in the catalog. If this isn't what you are doing, but are doing a Save As to a different location, I'm curious as to why you need to do that.

Thank you for your response, Sargenta1, and my sincere apologies for my very poorly composed original post; it did not deserve the kindly way in which you dealt with it. I will briefly recap for the record. The problem arose last month when editing previously unedited copies of original TIFF scans, a regular part of my activities over the years. These copies had had a few tags attached on entry to the Organizer with metadata written to the file. After editing, including the addition of more tags, albums and writing of metadata, they were saved and closed - and disappeared. The only way of finding them I could think of was by using Find (I have never got on well with version sets). When found, all tags, albums and metadata had been removed. They could however be dragged and tagged in the usual way and returned to their usual place in the catalog, but it was a time consuming operation. To cut this short, in the end I decided to backup the catalog and make a full backup of the computer; PSE11 was uninstalled and reinstalled and things have returned to normal, with one exception that I will raise in a separate post. I would be happy to deal with any queries but that apart I now propose to put the problem down to one of those things and move on.
