Hi, I currently have a PC with Vista and running PSE6. The Catalog is on my C drive. Recently, I bought a new Windows 10-based PC and have installed PSE8. (Yes, it is several versions before the latest). My extensive image files are stored on separate external drives.
I seem to be having problems copying the Catalog (only) as well as Catalog and Images etc; possibly due to size . The copy process has failed several times. It would be nice to use my PSE images once again. Can someone assist by advising on the best way of addressing this problem?

The backup / restore process link from Sepiana is the normal way to migrate to a new computer. If your library is divided in several external drives, all the drives should be plugged in when you to the backup. All your images from all drives will be saved (with a new name) in the catalog backup folder you have chosen. You can restore in original location, in which case only the catalog folder will be copied to your new computer. Or you can decide to restore all your pictures in a single drive (eg the internal drive of your new computer). In the latter case, the restore will create a new folder branch for each separate external drive. But in your case, if all your picture files are on various external drives, it would be much simpler to make a copy of your catalog folder and store it somewhere in your new computer. Moving or copying a catalog folder does not change its contents. - locate your catalog folder via the menu Help >> System info - Copy the whole folder somewhere on your new computer - Double click on the catalog.pse8db file in that folder to open the organizer with the catalog copy. The catalog will be considered in 'custom' location in the catalog manager. If you prefer to have it in the default location, use the button 'move' in the catalog manager and select if you want it available to only you or to all users.
