Great thread. I'm going to try all these techniques out soon as and will get back to you. Many thanks.

Another way to use the styles. I created a bolt or nail head - or whatever you'd call it - out of a solid circle and a metal style. So simple and looks so good. Here are two of them on my layout. I used two different metal styles trying to see which one worked better, but they both worked and didn't look much different so I kept them both on the layout.

Now if we could just find a way to REMEMBER all the tutorials that we have seen or read...wouldn't that be wonderful. After the demise of our old Elements site, I have started saving any articles and posts that interest me, using One Note. Its really easy and you can then organize all the great tips, tutorials etc into sections within One Note. I also like it that it works on my laptop and IPad so if I save something on one device its available within OneNote on all.

Is there an easy way to save the information in a thread or do you just copy the relevant text, which can be a bit tedious? I do often copy/paste a tutorial into Word but if there is another, easier way, I'd be delighted to hear. Yes, I have got OneNote but never think to use it. Thanks

I have many tutorials copied/pasted into Word docs. The problem arises when coming to look for one again. At the time of creating the document I give it what seems like a meaningful title so I will remember it but after the passage of time and goodness knows how many tutorials later it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. I don't think it would be any better if I printed them out. They would just get lost in the heap…

You could keyword them and then insert hyperlinks to the actual document. A lot of work to start with if you already have heaps of them, but might be an idea for those started off to collect tutorials and tips etc.

However, I've just developed a file structure, with many levels, for all the tutorials etc that I collect. So, for this, I have a folder called 'Orbs and Twirls', within a folder called 'Tutorials'. Different subjects/aspects have their own folder with slightly not-to-specific titles, as there can be sub-folders within if it needs to be more specific. I suppose, because it has 'developed' from when I first got PSE, about 4 yrs ago, I have an idea of where many things/tutorials/links etc are. Having said that, I do have a lot of stuff that has ended up in 'Misc' coz I'm not sure where to put it. On a 'rainy day', I'll have to sort them too. On the whole, it all works well, I have to say.

Thank you Simone and Squirrel for your tips and suggestions.
Believe it or not I do have a folder based file structure system for all the tutorials I have acquired but even with that it can be difficult to find what I want. As for using Excel – I remember some time ago I decided to use Excel to make a record of all the Digi-kits I have and their Designers – I gave that up after a while as I found Excel a learning curve too far for me… However I've got the bit between my teeth again so I must make an effort to further refine my 'folder system'. If nothing else, it will give me something to do these dark nights…

In return for helping me out, I would be more than happy to introduce you to Excel In actual fact, I'm so up to my eyes with stuff to do (mostly on PC, of course ) I'm not even getting time to play on PSE ... and this all has little to do with Christmas looming

I'm sure I should know how but for the moment my mind has gone blank...not an unusual state for my mind these days...

I remember when DH learned Excel at work. The guys in his department kept asking to just do it for him rather than spending all that time teaching him - when he was "on his way out" anyway. He didn't learn Excel until the last few years of his career. Now, he uses it at home for fun. I think he misses it, because he makes all sorts of useless spreadsheets - including his Poker winnings. LOL I've tried my hand at it a few times. It reminds me of when I was trying to learn PSE - frustrating.
