Did you know that you can change the feathering of a selection after you've already drawn it? You've chosen the marquee tool and made your selection -- oops - you forgot to feather your selection. In the past, I have started over because I didn't know I could change it. Well, there's the old "right click is your friend" option again. Make a selection - right click inside the selection and a menu will come up where you can change the feathering. So easy!! There are also 10 other options on that menu - include "layer" from your selection You know the lesson here? Always try right clicking - so often a menu will show up. I am using PSE11 on a Mac with OSX - so your experience may be different.

How did I not see this bit of wisdom until now; I was not aware that I could right-click a selection; I will have to give it a try.
Thanks for sharing.
I sometimes feather after the fact by choosing SELECT > Feather Selection or SELECT > Refine Edge

I didn't know that. I think we get stuck in our ways of doing things and we never investigate all the options available. It's amazing what you can find if you 'explore'
