This technique has been around for a long time but it's worth a reminder:
It's happened to all of us. You're zoomed way in on a photo working on some detail - but you're losing sight of what's happening with the big picture (as it were) because you can't see the whole photo.
No problem. Just go to the View menu and choose New Window (it will probably say New Window for [your photo's file name]). Voila. Now you can see both images at once, and any change you make in one will be reflected in the other.
IMPORTANT:
For this to work, you must, in the General Preferences settings, have a check mark next to Allow Floating Documents in Expert Mode.
