Most of my layouts are pretty simple Some interest has been added to this layout by adding another background paper at an angle and a couple of embellishments. Realize that you can cut a background paper into another shape or merely move part of it off the page, like I did here. Like I mentioned before, I'm a tilter, so some items on this page are tilted - just because I like that look. Dimension is added with Layer Styles - I'm heavy into soft edges created by adding the Layer Style called "glow" and using shadows and bevels. You can even outline a photo using Style. For more control of an outline (like the erasure you see on this layout) use Edit> Stroke and keep your stroke on it's own layer. You cannot erase part of your outline when you do it with Style. s14.postimg.org/ecsnikpf5/Bald_Eagle_Preserve_Web.jpgThe photos are mine, except for the Eagle closeup which is from the Alaska Tourism website's ad for this tour.

Another very simple layout. Here I started with a photo as a background. This photo happened to have the plane we took to the lodge in just the spot necessary to use it as an element of this layout. And, of course, having so much water on the photo allowed for a plain background at the bottom of the layout. Simple rectangle of color for the title - simple circle and rounded corner rectangles as photo mats. Again shadows add interest and definition. These photos are mine. This bear waited in a tree until the cook left the grill after cooking our salmon lunch. He was the official "grill cleaner." He was smart enough to wait until the grill cooled off.

Your layouts are great Janice. In that first one I love how you have made a selection of the eagle in the tree and and brought attention to it by magnifying it and placing it in the corner of the photo. Again your second layout, using the photograph as the background worked out well. Shadows can make a big difference to a page, as you say they can add interest and definition.
