Sorry for being a little late in posting this, sometimes stuff just gets in the way of what you really want to do. But anyway, my images of the week are as follows:
Kathylee - Fun in the Sun
Really quirky, and really, really great fun. I love the way that the boards mimic the hills of a landscape. Great to include the rope detail which makes sure the eye moves right to the edges of the frame. But would I have tidied up the little thing just showing in the middle? It breaks the abstract nature, but it also makes it intriguing that something is coming over the hill to meet me!
Kathylee (again) - Not a Flower
Oh I really love this style of image, the mundane shown in beautiful detail. A great cluster of 3 repeating objects always works well, but you’ve bravely included a huge expanse of black background, and this focuses the attention all the more onto the subject. I’m sure the Botanical Institute wouldn’t so happy that this is the image of their place that you chose to share, but I’m glad you did.
Sepiana - Passageway at Hacienda
Frames within frames within frames within… well, you get the picture. And Sepiana has definitely got the picture just right. I love how you’ve maintained the dynamic range from the bright foreground all the way through the passageway to the bright background. It is calling us, nay crying out for us, to go through and see what is in the courtyard.
Sydney - Light and Shadows
I love colour images and I love mono images. So what’s not to love about a bit of both? Great contrasting symmetry, with the bonus of the reflection of the shadow thrown in too. I really wish I had the eye to spot these opportunities for images, this is could have been just a simple flowerpot on a sunny windowsill but it has ended up being so much more than that.
And my winner is…
dandc - Serene
Classy, classic, simple, elegant, timeless. All these things and more. Perfectly positioned in the frame, with the subject moving into the centre, and the reeds framing above. And a gentle gradient of slightly more speckling to the bottom left. If you were hoping for a sketch-like look you definitely succeeded, and then some. Lovely.
