I have found a plugin (filetype .8BF) and want to see if it is compatible with PSE. I put it into the folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 14\Plug-Ins, but I don't see it under Filters or anywhere else I look in the editor. Is that the correct way to install this type of file?

Yes, it is. Did you check under File>Automation Tools?. Sometimes very old plug-ins will go there. Which plug-in are you talking about?

It is kaleidoscope2-1.8bf from www.mehdiplugins.comSome of the items in that folder show up under Automation Tools (On1) and some under Filter (also On1 as well as others). I have been trying to relocate an online kaleidoscope generator that you have mentioned, but I can not find the post or the site.

I do have Mehdi's Kaleidoscope plug-in. It is a 32-bit plug-in. Therefore, it is not compatible with Elements 14, a 64-bit application. If you have Elements 12 and earlier, you can install this plug-in. These Elements versions are 32-bit.
I do not recollect having posted a link to a kaleidoscope generator. I do remember having posted a link to PhotoSpiralysis. However, this is not a kaleidoscope generator. It is a Droste Effect generator.

If you are looking for a kaleidoscope generator, . . . funny.pho.to/kaleidoscope-photo-effect/.
