Moto - love that soft watercolour background on your page. Those little birds are just gorgeous. Do you mind if I ask what Filter you used for your edging effect?
Julie – I have to say I think I prefer your first frame. I find, and this is just my personal feeling, that the second frame is too busy and distracts the eye from the subject of your page which is the lovely little person in the middle. Again it's what you like that counts…I can't stress that enough.

Thanks Moto just had to have a try with Sprayed Strokes myself...and I have found out that there are other edgings that you can do... BG from ‘London Landmarks a Craftscapes kit from Daisytrail. I really need to get back to this technique, the more I compare my try to all of yours, the more I don't care for mine. Janice I've just had another look at your image and, I have to say, I like it very much. So, I feel you don't need to be putting yourself and your efforts down at all. I agree the effect around your beautiful picture isn't perhaps as 'chunky' as I would like and it's a bit hidden with your lacey border so maybe some adjustment there may lend itself well. As for the frame, I think it's fabulous. I don't think the colour is too much as it is the same colour as in the water. What about increasing the mat around the picture and maybe a lighter shade of what you currently have there, or even, perhaps, a very light shade of the colour of the frame? I wonder if that might feel better on your eyes? As I said, I think you should be pleased with your image. I like it and think you've done really well. Thanks for the thumbs up re the 2nd border. I hadn't realised it was thicker than the first but, like you, I think I prefer the thicker one. I want to workout how to bevel the edges and I've got an idea about using transform tool to pull the border around so that the mitred corners are improved. I might just try experimenting with whatever takes my fancy but I think I'll have to find another photo, or two, eh? Julie

Julie - if you want to try something different with your border, try making a selection from the pulled pixels so the lines run along the frame instead of butting up to it. What I mean is - if you took a horizontal selection from your pulled pixels, try taking a vertical selection instead. If you need to grab too fat of a selection to get more color -- after you make your selection, use the move tool to squeeze in on the side of the selection to make it skinnier. Then make your frame from this totally new selection. You will find the look is totally different and you might like the bevel better. Here is an example of the totally different look achieved by making a horizontal selection vs a vertical selection. You will note that if I choose vertical, I don't get many colors, but it looks more frame like. I don't even need to add a bevel to make it look like a frame. The horizontal selection, however, gives a more colorful and totally different look to a frame, but it needs a bevel to complete the frame look.

Well, that's very strange. I could have sworn I had uploaded a 3rd version regarding the frame but it's nowhere to be seen. It was after your last post, Janice, but before your edit where you have added your frames, explaining further re horizontal vs vertical selection. So, I'll add it again here (hopefully) [Edit: I found it, courtesy of BillyJean - in the wrong thread! Now sorted, thank goodness. Apologies to all]What I do remember posting is to say 'Thanks to Janice, I have a much improved border, now a frame which I'm pleased with! Thanks to all of you for your comments and suggestions which have helped me get to this version. So, here it is (again!!!) Many thanks, Janice, for your edit and the information and image. I only saw it when I came here to post this one so I might just have another play around with another photo and get a different effect. Thanks again. Julie

Thanks, BillieJean. Yes, I like it so much more than my previous ones All credit to Janice for suggesting alternative ways to do this frame Thanks Janice I've just sent it to my friend (it's her little girl - who's now 30yrs old!) and she has sent it to her, the 'little' girl. They're both over the moon with it Yay!!! Many thanks for ALL the help Julie

Julie, a totally different looking frame. I really like that look. Works so well with your project.
EDIT
Forgot to mention the gradient as the background - that works really well.

I'm really enjoying seeing how people have taken this idea and 'run' with it. Great job, everyone.

Just sitting playing. This time I used the 'Ocean Ripple' filter and gave it a drop shadow and a 1 pixel bevel. Pic from Serif Graphics BG from ‘blueberry forest’ by wendypdesigns Other elements from ‘Count the Waves’ by LJS Digital designs
