I don't do it very often, but I understand that when using the eyedropper tool in PSE, if you hold and drag to any window, you can sample the color. When I do that, the eyedropper cursor stays, but the only color I get is black.
Am I doing something wrong?

Yes, that is what I'm trying. I've reset the tool. I haven't gone so far as to reset the PSE preferences.

I am taking a very long shot in the dark. Are you by any chance working with a file that is in the Grayscale mode? Instead of RGB?

Sargenta, having clicked on the colour selection tool, are you going over to your image first, then click and drag to anywhere where your required colour is, only letting go of the mouse button once you have found your colour. Check the colour box before letting go, because that will show what colour you are picking up. Having let go of the mouse button, you can then carry on to paint the colour in your usual way. I hope that makes sense. I'm just thinking of easy practical ideas. I have to leave Sepiana to the more technical solutions Julie

I went to my desktop and did exactly what I did on my laptop - and it works fine on the desktop. So I think I ruled out user error. I had some issues getting the 13.1 update on my laptop and so I finally got that take care of this morning. I didn't think that would make a difference, and it didn't.

Well done for excluding user-error, Sargenta. That's always a useful thing to know I don't suppose resetting preferences etc has made any difference? I don't think I'm any good at suggesting anything here J

It looks like it is something specific to that copy of Elements. You could try deleting the Preferences file but you may want to try this first . . .
1. Right-click on the desktop shortcut and launch Elements as Administrator by right-clicking on "Run as administrator". 2. Check to see if the problem disappeared. If so, close Elements and launch it again but this time do it as a standard user.
This seems to solve many little glitches which develop in Elements and you won't lose all the customization you did as you would by deleting the Preferences file. I myself have solved many of such glitches but just doing this.

It appears to have something to do with my high-resolution/high-dpi screen. When I bring down the resolution, it works as it should.
